I know that there are a bunch of other posts in here from people looking for help translating something into Gaelic, and I'm sorry to add to the list...unsure.gif

I have been searching for a Scottish Gaelic word or name for a West Highland White Terrier that my husband and I are planning to purchase. Being a "Scottish breed," and the fact that I have ancestry in Scotland, I thought it would be unique and fitting.

It is a boy puppy and, of course, white. They are smallish dogs, growing to be anywhere from 18-22 lbs or so. Not small like Yorkies, but not large enough to be considered medium either. There is a little bit of a joke between us and the breeder that the puppy likes to "climb mountains."

I have been looking all over the net for names and translations, but not finding much that is helpful. I was wondering if anyone here could help? Any masculine name that would be meaningful, easy to call and easy to spell/pronounce would be appreciated. And if anyone knows of a good translation for something like "mountain climber" or something similar, that would be great.

I would appreciate any help! Thanks! smile.gif

Go to the Scottish Baby Names website and have fun.
It will tell you not only how to pronounce the name but,
tell you what it means
Good Luck

We are very excited. :-) I have adored Westies for many years!

Thank you for your suggestion... to which Scottish Baby Names website are you referring?

Also, we were looking through a list of names yesterday when we saw that Kane supposedly means "honor." That kind of struck a chord with us because the puppy's mother's name is Honor. We thought it would be sweet to use that somehow, but don't know enough about the Scottish Gaelic language to pull it off on our own. I have read that Mac means "son of..." and just kind of kidding around, we said what if we named the puppy "son of Honor?" But MacKane doesn't look quite right. Can someone help with this?
