You need WelshGuy..... the moderator here.... I don't know if anyone else undestands Welsh at all!

Welcome!

Posted by: Cymro 05-Feb-2004, 05:39 AM
Basically says where is everyone from Wales.. cause there's not much posting happening on this forum smile.gif

Hywel
The Moderator of the Welsh forum lives in France at the moment - and is really busy in the 'real world' - but visits when he can.

There don't seem to be a lot of Welsh visitors, does there.....? but I know there are lots of people on here who are very interested in Wales, its history and culture.

Sooooo, if you've got a Welsh-based topic which you are passionate about, we'd love to read it!

(But go easy on the Welsh language...... I certainly have to proclaim my total lack of knowledge... I know when I visit Wales that the bi-lingual signs often leave me totally confused!)

Sut mae Cymro.
Croeso Hywel.
Rydw i dysgu cymraeg, ond un anffodus, fi siarad iawn drwg.
esgusodwch fi.
Jax
the rest of the message will have to be "yn Saesneg".
As I am the only one in the house who wishes to learn to speak Welsh, learning is rather dificult.
My other half is Scotish, so there is a lack of opotunity to speak at home.
I always look into the Welsh section and have posted a few times.
Only joined a matter of a few weeks ago.
hope you stay and enjoy your time here.

Translates to ....

How's it going, I can see that lots of people are leaving messages on the Irish and Scottish boards and I have to say that I was dismayed not to see a conversation going on here...Come on, say something! biggrin.gif

I've also just looked at the list of songs and I see that there are not many Welsh groups there, perhaps we could ask someone from the radio to put one or two
songs from Wales on the list too, like Meinir Gwilym or Mynediad Am Ddim, what do you think?

Thanks to my m8 Lisa for that biggrin.gif

It wasn`t me that translated it .. it was my m8 Lisa who I used to work with ..she used to translate in her job. I wouldn`t wanna take the credit for it.

My Dad has taken up learning the language though (at the grand old age of 67!!) Go Dad go biggrin.gif

Now I`m in England I doubt I`ll ever get the chance to learn it properly.

How about the "London Welsh" they are a big comunity. there is even a course in London to learn Welsh. also a course on the internet to learn [ BBC Catchphrase]
If people can learn Klingon or Elvish, why not Welsh or any other celtic language?

Here, here! I am stumbling through Scots gaelic, and a bit of Lallans.... Welsh just sortta scared the bejeebiees outta me..... unsure.gif
I hope to try it one day though...

What I do find fasinating is that prior to Hadrians Wall the Scots and Welsh could communicate because the languages were close enough. And After the wall, the 400 yr language evolution made it to where neither could speak and understand one another....

At least that is what I have read, and told by.... tour guides
