Magic of a Brand New Day by Marc Gunn, Bard 5/27/2003
I went up to visit Scarborough Faire this weekend, and had a great conversation with Lili who used to perform with the Bedlam Bards. Lili sang an absolutely beautiful song she had written about faeries called "The Night Hunt" (or rather the Welsh version of that). It inspired me to write this poem.
Glistening puddles on a starry night Reflect the heavens and faery delight Waves roll as the fey surf Carefree merriment at trees girth Pixies and sprites dancing in circles round Calling for flowers and buds from ground Green and silver webs of spells While root and leaf weave among the dells Fireflies and night folk gather and dance When out of the woodwork comes angelic dances Cold and hard with smile of wry mirth And Mother Nature anxious to have the world give birth To new and old and colors subdued While dawn awakes she feels imbued With all wishes of a day well-blessed And all the drops of water crest The magic slowly begins to fade And the world is blessed with a brand new day
