Here is a man who was on Death Row for 17 years then pardoned and even received a $161,500 settlement from the state for his faulty conviction. The state would not have given up the money had it been properly convicted obviously the state saw he was wrongfully convicted and almost put to death. This is why I am against the Dp because of the innocent man or woman who might be put to death.

I agree, with the possible exception of politicians. biggrin.gif

I'm against it because I think the "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" theory has it's faults.
How can we think we are great and good when we put people to death?

But isn't that just a form of pest control? biggrin.gif

Seriously, though, I am opposed to the death penalty in 99% of cases. There is the odd case where it just isn't good enough to put them away forever, leaving them to become Bubba's "special friend." But even then, there is some doubt. So I err to the conservative. Someday, though, maybe I'll tell y'all about the guy who mutilated his girlfriend with a hatchet before burning the body. He got five (5) years, and was out in 9 months. And so it goes. sad.gif

Just my tuppence.

I think this might be something I might agree with. Politicians might be the only ones open to this.

And andylucky

I think as I said above kidding aside there might be that 1% but then there would have to be 0 doubt and I think every person involved in the testimony would have to be under a lie detector during questioning so there is no oh I hate this guy so lets get him sent to the gas chamber type vigilantism.

As for the guy that got 5 and out in 9 this is why I say the US court system is in need of a long overdue overhaul replacing every judge with people who actually know what to do as a judge not the rougue justice we have today. The Supreme Court case I posted the article about is a good example of justice gone awry. sad.gif

I don't know about everywhere else, but our judges are lawyers who turn politician. A most horrible combination. wink.gif It makes for a silly situation. A lawyer turned politician giving orders to twelve people picked for their absolute ignorance about a topic. Hmmm.

Just my tuppence.

I will agree with Andy on 1% if there are that many politicians.
