They are beautiful aren`t they I love them all to bits.
We feed all the snakes on a Sunday evening (just finished). The corns and the boa are all on little mice (one a week)... the smaller Pine is on 1 medium mouse a week, the Pine has a medium rat once a week (they absolutely stink when they are defrosting!!) The dog will eat anything and everything (even a whole birthday cake when I forgot to put it out of her reach - complete with candles and holders!!!) and as for little Harriet .. she LOVES jam (although I`ve only given it to her once!!)
My other creature is a bit older than the others .. I`ve had him for 6 years .. he eats anything too but he`s snuggly and warm (Its my partner, just in case any of you were wondering )
Those frozen mice and their cousins all lined ziggy zag up nose to tail.. in the bags...are pretty amusing to see... Even reptiles can have a "frozen" dinner these days !
Mayte! Your creatures are beautiful! I am glad too that you were finally able to get them posted. I love your little hamster........so cute! Thanks for sharing with us!
So, a hamster living in a house full of snakes. Hmm? I imagine your hamster is pretty regular. Oh, if hamsters could speak. Harriet would say, "AAAAAAAHHH!"

Normal is a relative term. For some reason it is not a term my relatives use to describe me.
I have a very conflicting relation to snakes... I'm fascinated by them. I like watching them ...BEHIND GLASS!!! They are truly interesting and beautiful animals but nevertheless I'm so scared by them that my blood runs cold...at the same time...
I also wonder how to communicate with them???

Our snakes all have their own personalities. THe biggest one (and oldest) is Tess. We got her when she was 2 1/2 and she hadn`t been handled much. We call her the grandmother!! The first couple of times we handled her, she hissed like a good `un, although she has never struck at us. Now she only hisses if she`s near to shedding her skin (bout once every 6-8 weeks). We`ve just leave her alone when she`s like that. As for the others .. Roxy is about 7 months old, but she`s as placcid as they come. She really striking to look at. Beautiful:) She`s our model The two corn snakes, Barney and Monty, have been in our care since they were 2 or three months old. Monty is like the father to Barney who has this "cheeky chappie" look about him They are far more used to being handled and never strike or hiss at all. They love being taken out for a slither The newest one, the boa Bonnie, is not used to being handled at all. She has struck my partner about 8 or 9 times so far, but as she`s only a couple of months, we`ll soon get out of that. Regular handling is all they require.
They are no different in that respect to the hamster. The more you handle them, the better tempered they are. Apparently, we`ve been told that snakes regard humans as one of three things .. insignificant, predator or prey. If they think you`re one of the last two, they are more likely to strike. If you`re insignificant they`ll just put up with you. I think my partner and I are insignificant to all but Bonnie, who sees us as predators. Nice to be loved eh?
All in all, they are great fun. I love feeding days. When you see snakes feeding on a tv programme, you just tend to think, "oh don`t they open their mouths wide", but to see it in front of you is amazing. Its truly a "back to nature" experience. Absolutely fascinating
I`d have more if I had the room to keep them all (OH .. thats after I get my bearded dragon which is next on the list )
