Despite the name I'm born & bred in Belfast [grandfather moved from Cornwall about a century ago looking for work, became a shipwright and worked on the Titanic]. I grew up during 'the Troubles' in what is over-simplistically labelled the protestant community, but once I got to Queen's University my celtic genes started showing themselves. Never did manage to master a tin whistle though.
Roll on 25 to 30 years, marriage, 3 kids and many holidays to France. My wife had the bright idea of a holiday home in France [just before 'A Place in the Sun' had everyone looking for one]. Two trips to France later we signed for a house near Carhaix in Brittany. Now I've discovered Breton culture and I like it.
I keep wondering what exactly is a celt today. Discussion topic anyone? I'm also concerned as to what Bretons think about 'outsiders' buying holiday homes in their land.
Hello and a big Welcome to you georgetreliving! I am sure you will enjoy the music and the people here, we call each other family. As far as your discussion on celtics, go up top click community then hit forums then scroll all the way down until you get Celtic Nations. You can find out a lot of history here. Welcome once again it will be a pleasure talking with you.
Hello to everyone here. Looks like a grand site. My name is Robert Gunn, and I'm an editor/historian for ScotWeb history and my own personal history pages as well. I generally shy away from public forums after some bad experiences elsewhere, but a friend of mine is here and I've heard very good things about the people here.
Please feel free to visit my pages, take them as you will, enjoy or ignore, but I hope you'll find them, at the very least, interesting and informative.
Glad to have you here Skye! The music is what first drew me in, then I discovered most of the folks don't bite. Hope you'll be able to share some of your history articles. See ya at your place.
