biggrin.gif Hi everyone...I just got off the phone with Paige Macmillan who is the games chair person this year. I have a list of the entertainers for the 2006 Highland Games. They are:

Alex Beaton
Brian Freeman
Tartan Terrors
Paisely Close

No, there will be no Clann An Drumma this year but Paige did tell me that they had to fight to get the Tartan Terrors on the bill. You see, there are a lot of 'older' board members who really prefer the classic sound of Alex Beaton (whom I also love!). However, there is a large number of younger folks who would like....a little more excitement at the games. So...this is a start!

If you'd like more info on our Mesa games you can find them here: www.arizonascots.com. The numbers last year are about 15,000.

SO...there is your open invitation!! This is a really family friendly weekend with stuff for the wee ones like rock climbing & wee caber toss. I was also told that Michaels Craft Stores will be running a 'craft area' for the wee ones this year! You know that CelticRose and I will both be there! How could you say no to that???

This is a great weekend in Arizona...our weather should be wonderful too!! The pipe bands are great and there is the athletics for both men & women!!

Welcome to the desert!!

Hey Amy! That is a HUGE improvement! I will be looking forward to hearing the Tartan Terrors for sure! Thanks so much, Amy! We will work on CAD for next year! hee hee wink.gif

HEY!!!!! This isn't fair. You guys don't want to share The Wicked Tinkers with us east coast Celts, we shouldn't have to share The Terrors with you. angel_not.gif biggrin.gif

You will love The Terrors live. It's nice to see that they are wanted all over the country. They are so funny and talented and just all around nice people. Enjoy and get your picture taken with them, so you can say, you knew them back when....

Actually, I saw the last east coast show that The Tinkers did. The were at Valley Forge, Pa. two years ago and the night before they were to leave, Philadelphia received 33 inches of snow and they were stranded for a few days. Since Keith Jones is a Jersey boy, he was use to snow like that but the California guys couldn't handle that. So, we may never see The Tinkers back east again. sad.gif

This sounds GREAT!! A Shrule...just remember how left out we west coast celts really are!! Not just in Arizona poor Rindy is just as deprived as we are!! But...I will take pics and will report in...

CelticRose and I will both be there....no doubt...she may be in her re-enactment group but...I know she'll manage to get away for the TT!!

Maybe the following year we can get a couple new - faster pace groups here...gotta break these board members in s l o w l y ..... naughty.gif

Posted by: A Shrule Egan 13-Oct-2005, 09:49 PM
Well, find out the contact information and PM it to Tequila Nancy and she'll send a BarleyJuice kit off to the folks in Arizona. Maybe you can have them along with the Terrors. You can't get a much faster pace then The Terrors and BarleyJuice. I'm sure Nancy would love to be in Arizona in February, then the Philly area.

I am on the sound crew for the San Diego Highland Games, and we always have the Wicked Tinkers in our line up. We have had Alex Beaton several times. I have never heard of the Tartan Terrors till today. I found thier website, but no samples to liston to. Do they have any tracks on Highlander Radio? Guess I will have to check. I am not on my computer much, so I don't liston to Highlander Radio much.

I found Brian Freeman's site and liked the samples I found, I never did find a site for Paisely Close.

Posted by: ArizonaAmy9 16-Oct-2005, 01:30 PM
ChocolateFilk - I am hearing good things about the TT and I have many of the WT cd's now but I found nothing for Brian Freeman...would you send me a link (you can pm it) the one I found was an author... So...tell me...how big are the San Diego Games? I could zip over there for them...any excuse to come over to San Diego you know....any way...thanks for chiming in smile.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 16-Oct-2005, 04:56 PM
Hey y'all! I still haven't heard anything of the Tartan Terrors! I need to request their music on here then to hear them.

Amy! Interested in a road trip to San Diego to see the Wicked Tinkers?! wink.gif I believe they play there every June, isn't that right, ChocolateFilk?

Hey Mike! The WT do go back east! They were just in Maine! I have their whole schedule if you like. Hopefully they will get more gigs back there for you. Did you see my pics of them from July this year? They are WONDERFUL guys and it makes me mad that the Mesa games will not take them on. I was told it was because they were too loud! cool.gif

I wonder if Tartan Terrors have their CDs for sale on CDbaby.com? You can listen to sample tracks there, I know! That's an idea too! wink.gif

anyway, I am looking forward to the Mesa Highland event...........and yes! I will be dressed up in my re-enactment outfit! smile.gif

ArizonaAmy and Celtic Rose, The San Diego Games are in late June in the City of Vista, north of San Diego. We have a free Friday night concert and the games go Saturday and Sunday. We have 2 stages, and always have the Tinkers on the Bear Garden stage. I don't know how ours compares in size to others, but it seems to be of decent size.

I spend the whole time working on the sound crew, so I don't get around much except at the end of the day. We have 2 stages and 4 remote sound systems to take care of. If you do happen to make it, look for a long haired guy hanging around one of the sound boards.

Here is a link to the http://www.sdhighlandgames.org/.

Thanks ChocolateFilk - this seems like a good possibility for a road trip! It NEVER hurts to go to SD and leave the Valley of the Blistering Sun behind even for just a few days...I'll make note of the date...just in case....Even though are games in Mesa are 2 days...they are not as big as many but they are respectable...not sure if they could handle numbers much bigger. We do tend to cater to an older generation but with the athletics and pipebands/dancers...every year I've noticed more younger folks and families too! Still...have to keep June in mind!

Posted by: CelticRose 22-Oct-2005, 05:37 PM
Thanks so much, CF! I heard the SD games were a pretty big size. I know someone who is at one of the booths there every year.

Amy, I heard that 2006 was going to be the last year in Mesa. They are going to relocate the games the year after that around the Phoenix area somewhere. wink.gif

Posted by: ArizonaAmy9 25-Oct-2005, 07:04 PM
Humm...I had not heard that but...I didn't ask it either...I'll have to do some checking on that...wonder where they will take it? Have any hints CR? It would be fun to see our games get bigger and better....well, we will see won't we? I can't wait til our games...February is such lovely weather here...I love to be oot an aboot...until about May that is... biggrin.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 19-Nov-2005, 07:14 AM
Hey Amy! It is supposed to be somewhere in the Phoenix area, so it will be close...to you at least! wink.gif smile.gif

By the time February rolls around here, I will really wish that I was en route to the Arizona Games!!! We are hoping to start appearing at U.S. festivals in the next year or so. I've carved a whole new line of necklaces (not up on the website yet) and my wife and I are hoping to be able to bring our collection around to U.S. festivals. I've always wanted to see Arizona so what better way than to tie it in to a highland games.

Have fun at the games and I hope the sun shines.

Hey Keltic - I'd like to see a link to your site - got one? Maybe some day you can head out west to our direction. That would be cool for you & your wife to come here to the US....there are SO many highland games going on you really could make a grand tour of it! Good luck with your new collection! jester.gif

You can either click that little "www" button on the bottom of my post or click ---http://www.kelticnations.com. I make the rings. I also maintain a North American events schedule with well over 300 events posted with links to their websites, so I've seen how many festivals there are around North America. The schedule can be found at the bottom of the main page.

Oh Keltic! come to AZ and see me and Amy! Surely you and your family have nothing else to do, aye? wink.gif biggrin.gif Would be great to meet y'all and share what we know. (I know very llittle but trying to learn..hee hee)

Hope it works out for you! We're supposed to have theTartan Terrors to play there. I haven't a clue who those folks are...do you Amy? unsure.gif

Posted by: ArizonaAmy9 13-Jan-2006, 09:54 AM
Keltic - Dah...had a blonde moment and didn't see the www. at the bottom of your post! But I've gone over and visited your site...looks very nice! I'll be back again I am sure!

CR - I've been requesting the Tartan Terrors now so that I'll know them when they come...they are pretty good. I hope they'll draw a lot of younger folk in. We need to keep the next generation interested and coming to the Games! I can't wait to see you in your kit! You bet I'll have my camera handy! Plus, I'll have my copy of ABOSAA for Herself to sign!

I can't wait!!! clap.gif goof.gif holiday.gif jester.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 21-Jan-2006, 10:59 PM
Hey Amy! I checked out the Tarton Terror's website and they look like a very high class act! So anxious to see them now. Before, I had no clue who they were. Like you say, we do need the younger generation coming into these games.

My outfit is almost all ready for the games. Just working on my corset now! I will be having my camera ready at all times too. We are all hoping of course to have lunch with Herself on Saturday. Hope you can join us. I already asked my Commander! hee hee I will have my copy of ABOSAA for Herself to sign as well! We must exchange cell phone numbers so we can find each other and know where to meet. Whatcha think?

Posted by: ArizonaAmy9 23-Jan-2006, 10:53 AM
Hi CR...I went to the TT's site too...I think they will be a good addition to our games. I am trying to find out the schedule. I'll be there with bells on! Ok, not really bells on...Friday I'll be helping w/set up, Saturday morning me & my little guys will be working at the ticket gates & then we are free to roam! I should be done by 11am I think. EM me & let me know when you'll be doing your thing - you know we won't miss it! I think I am free all day Sunday...unless they need my help! So...can't wait...you are going to look great!!

Posted by: CelticRose 30-Jan-2006, 09:25 AM
Amy, will you have a cell phone to the games? I know that usually we go to lunch with Diana around 11:30 but since she will only be getting to her booth at 11:00, I am not sure now what time her break will be. We can exchange cell phone numbers so we can catch up with each other. We did this in Flagstaff last July and it worked out really well for all us AZ Ladies of Lallybroch . wink.gif smile.gif

Posted by: ArizonaAmy9 31-Jan-2006, 01:11 PM
Hi CR....I'll em you with numbers...I'll be working the gates, I think the back one, all morning on Saturday but hopefully can break away for lunch with Herself....hate to miss that! My little guys are SO excited to go. Last year I bought them both a bow with set of arrows (tipped with rubber erasers) and they have loved them...my son would like a knife fear.gif but not sure that I am ready to have him missing a finger or two...either way...can't wait!! cheers.gif Men in Kilts...brings out the best in me naughty.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 03-Feb-2006, 12:55 AM
Bahahahahaha! Your little ones and us big ones should all have a great time. I heard from my Commander last night and he told me to pick up my pass for inside at the west gate, which is off Dobson. Is that where you will be? I thought I would get there an hour early before the games start. Sure hope we can hook up with each other. It is has been awhile since we have seen one another! I can hardly wait!

Posted by: ArizonaAmy9 23-Feb-2006, 04:49 PM
Finally, FINally, FINALLY this weekend is our Mesa Highland Games & Scottish Gathering!! clap.gif I will be out Friday helping get things set up and then working most of Saturday...think I have Sunday off smile.gif You all can expect a review from CR and myself...plus pictures as I know both of us will have our cameras in tow!!

Can you tell I have been waiting for this??? Can you tell I am SOOO excited??

And CR will look just darling in her Jacobite outfit so I'll be sure to include a pic or two of her!!

Posted by: CelticRose 23-Feb-2006, 11:21 PM
Amy! You are too kind! I look like a huge tomato in my Jacobite outfit! laugh.gif But like you said, I will be taking tons of photos as well! Gosh! You will be there on Friday? I was told if I came on Friday I could get my pass. Maybe I should do that. That would save me from having to be there at 7 am on Saturday! yikes!

well anyway, looking forward to seeing you again, my friend! Yippee! I can't wait!

A big thanks to everyone that made the 42nd Annual Arizona Scottish Gathering and Highland Games a success! We cannot do it without you.

The steering committee is still looking at all of our new location choices. Keep looking to www.arizonascots.com to get the most recent information. It will be updated after April's meetings. The Games are the last weekend of February.

We have Tartan Terrors on the bill again. It was an amazing show! Also, we have signed the Men of Worth for 2007.

Hey Michelle! I was one of the re-enactors for the 1745 Jacobite Society! You all did an awesome job, as you do every year! I did not get to see the Tartan Terrors this year cause their schedule conflicted with what we were doing at our camp. Glad to hear they will be back and I look forward to hearing them. I REALLY enjoyed the band Paisley Close. Awesome music and people in that band.

Of course, it is always great to see Diana Gabaldon!

Wish you would bring the Wicked Tinkers back though. boo hoo. sad.gif

Many thanks again! Looking forward to hearing where the new location is going to be. Have fun planning!

Posted by: QueenofArgyll 16-Apr-2006, 06:29 PM
I really love the the Wicked Tinkers too. The last couple of years we decided to not book them because Flagstaff and Prescott has been booking them regularly. It is something to look forward to up North year after year.

Michelle

How wonderful to have you here Michelle!! We really appreciate all the hard work you put into our Highland Games!! We just can't wait for next year!!

Posted by: CelticRose 07-May-2006, 08:51 PM
Thanks so much, Michelle, for everything you and the Mesa games do to hold this event every year for us.

Ummm, Wicked Tinkers in Prescott? unsure.gif Look forward to seeing them in Flagstaff every year and especially this year.

Many thanks again for all you do!

I finally received information on the entertainment line up for the Arizona Scottish Gathering and Highland Games.

Go see the updated website at www.arizonascots.com.

Unfortunately the Caledonians were unable to confirm Men of Worth and the Tartan Terrors due to some budget restrictions.

Slainte!
