In case you are not familiar with Robert Burns, he was a famous Scottish Poet who created some very well known Poems and Songs - such as our New Year's favorite Auld Lang Sang.

I have always wanted to attend a Robert Burns Dinner, which features poetry, whiskey tasting, music, dance and the HAGGIS! These dinners are common this time of year around Robert Burns' Birthday of January 25th.

Last night I unexpectedly had the opportunity to partake in a Robert Burns Dinner as our 3 children were invited as part of the entertainment. I must say we all had a wonderful time. The Clan Uisgebeatha 3rd Annual Robert Burns Supper in Historic Concord was simply a delightful event in the traditional scottish culture of the Robert Burns Dinner.

The readers of the Poetry really brought alive the spirit of Robert Burns and the community and generousity of this wonderful group of people was clearly evident in how they welcomed us to their yearly gathering. To be honest with you we usually wait out in the next room as our dancer children perform, so this was a real treat for us.

And, we all had the traditional HAGGIS for the first time. It was soooo GOOD!!!

And if you ever have the opportunity to attend a Robert Burns Dinner - definitely go!! biggrin.gif

Paul:

You actually enjoyed a Haggis? Please tell me it was enjoyable after many serious pints were consumed.

Robert Burns's work is absolutely outstanding! As a matter of fact, I recall reading many of his works in high school english...can't place one in particular but I know he had a large library. That's cool that you attended a dinner like that, Macfive! It would be neat to have something like that with an assortment of some folks from here on Highlander Radio!

(nudges all...)

We attended a Burns Dinner on Sat night, hosted by the local Caledonian Soc.
we go ever year, it's great and a good chance for all to dress up in their finest tartans.

I went casual this year with a jacobite shirt, waistcoat and my new Morrison Ancient kilt.

haggis is better with whisky poured over it!
