Hello everyone!

I am considering taking up bonsai as a hobby. Does anyone have any advice for me, such as good websites, books, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I now have three bonsai trees, all are ficuses. I have several books and tools. My only problem is that I am scared to death to do anything! I'm afraid if I start cutting on them like I'm supposed to, I'll kill the poor things, being as inexperienced as I am! sad.gif Anyone else ever tried bonsai? Any advice on overcoming the first-time jitters?

Don't be afraid to cut , anyway you know the first bonsai we buy always die and all after will be better because you will have learn from your mistake.I buy a book from richters(richters.com)to learn how to do bonsai with any other plant like rosemary or fine herb.Sometimes it's less expensive , it take time to get the shape you wish but the result is better and you'll be proud of yourself.Good luck.

Thanks Nancy! I bought three ficuses, and I am very happy that I have been able to keep them alive for several weeks! biggrin.gif Normally I kill plants - I have a black thumb - but I really want to do well with these. I repotted one of them about 2 weeks ago and did some root trimming on it. Its still alive, so that has helped my confidence level some. Next will come some shaping. I'm REALLY nervous about that!
