Walking with my daughter
Safely in my arms
Perched her on my shoulders
After not too long
With a kick piggyback
I would gallop on
Holding hands and kicking cans
While we strolled along
When we took to running
The race she’d always win
When we took to falling
I doctored up her chin
Somehow seeing new things
In places we had been
Walking with my daughter
Always with a grin

(You guys must think that I’m loosing it.
Maybe I am?)

Why the devil would you say that? You're not loosing it, you're discovering a hidden talent I'm sure. Aw, you man always think you're getting nuts because you speak what's in your heart.

Your poem describe very much what the love between a parent and child should be. Sadly today not much of this kind of fun exist because material things took over. I never played with my parents but since we were a big family we kids played together all the time.
Thanks for you poem John. LOA

Nice poem and hit close to home. Hubby and I have 3 adult daughters now with families of their own. I can remember a time when hubby would ride them on his shoulders. Then there were the booboos that you had to kiss away. Your poem brought back some very nice memories. Keep writing! thumbs_up.gif

Thank you all for encouraging me to keep writing, especially Rindy for asking what happened, and so I think the second draft is better. I hope that you do too. (Like they say, maybe three times is a charm.)

Walking with my daughter
Safely in my arms

Wrapped up like a present
To keep her nice and worm

While napping in her carriage
We would carry on

Then perched her on my shoulders
After not too long

With a kick piggyback
We would gallop on

While holding hands or kicking cans
We would stroll along

When we started running
The race she’d always win

And when we tripped and fell
We’d doctor up our skin

Somehow seeing new things
In places we had been

And seeing friends and neighbors
Who often would join in

No matter what the weather
A walking we would go

Walking with my daughter
No better time had been

Walking with my daughter
Always with a grin

There should be an irrefutable law that children cannot grow up until after the parents are gone. It hurts to much watching them leave you behind.

Ok, I think it’s done, so I promise not to post it again.
