Over the last three years I have spotted shops selling a Welsh Cilt. Have any of you guys tried them out yet?

Sorry for the double take... in Welsh there are no "K's" nor for that matter is there a "J". not sure of other letters.
allthough the shop and there web site use the word tartan, instead of plaid they are using the word brithwe
At first they only sold two types but now seem the have brithwe for various welsh surnames.
'brithwe Dewi Sant' (St. David's Speckled cloth/plaid) and 'sgrepan' instead of sporran.
I am thinking of buying a Cilt but at the price they are asking I was hoping for some feedback first from any of you lads who had tried a Kilt/Cilt out.

I have one and I love it!

Mine is in my family name tartan and I wear it every chance I get. It was hand made by Maria Morrisey at the Celtic Clotheshorse in Austin, Texas. She sourced the tartan from Cambrian Woolen Mills in Wales.

I've been a big cilt enthusiast for many years and have a website:
http://www.geocities.com/ciltman/index. This is not a commercial website and I don't sell anything so my comments below are not commercially motivated!

There are many Welsh that scoff at the idea of Welshmen wearing cilts, and the claims to a long and ancient history of cilt-wearing in Wales is dubious at best. However, I like the idea of Welshmen wearing cilts, even if it has no historic pedigree. Its fun and they look great! when i wear my kilt I feel more connected to my Welsh celtic heritage. Welshmen need more symbols of our heritage.

Why should only Welsh women have a national costume or identity? Besides, the so called national costume of Wales was a new invention not too long ago. Why shouldn't we invent one for us men now?

So, I say go ahead and get that cilt, and wear it proudly as a symbol of your heritage and pride.

Cheers!
Chris

P.S. - I have placed an order for my second cilt in Welsh National tartan.
