All of the talk shows do the top 10 on subject matters so let me ask:

If you were going to Scotland what would be your top 10 places you'd go to in Scotland..

The travel channel does this but I am not going to put what their answers were here. It will be interesting to see what everyone would choose..

Have fun!

About the only thing I know for sure I want to witness is the Edinburgh Tattoo and Perth, the home of the Black Watch museum.

Anything else would be cake, I suppose!

Or would that be scones? biggrin.gif

I'll gladly read any suggestions, tho, all I've ever seen of either Scotland or Ireland have been in picture books and videos.

Here's what I'd probably do and see in Scotland:

1. Take the train up into the Highlands.
2. Tip a pint in a pub in a small town in the Highlands.
3. Take in Celtic and Hibernian soccer matches.
4. Visit the Princes Street Gardens.
5. Take the tour of Holyrood.
6. Tip a pint in a pub in Edinburgh.
7. Tip a pint in a pub in Glasgow.
8. Visit the Royal & Ancient Golf Club.
9. Tip a pint at a pub in St. Andrews.
10. Hope that the loos I use after tipping all those pints aren't like the one in Trainspotting biggrin.gif .

Naaa... St Andrews isn't as good.. go and have a pint in the "Creepy Wee Pub" in Dunfermline.. it's cute and they do them good, they also have nice bar lunches, I sometimes have lunch there in Lunch Break when I'm in College..

btw: when you're in Fife Go and take the walk from Kirkcaldy to Leven.. it's great. It'll take you 2 hours but you can walk the entire distance on the coast .. just great =)

My wife and I were to Scotland in 1996 and we plan on going back in 2006. All the sights in the Highlands are awsome, there are so many places that are beautiful and if you have family from Scotland there are alot sites of interest depending on your Clan. Below in no real order, are my 10 sights which I have seen or plan to see:

Being part of Clan Donald, we spent a week on the Isle of Skye which was fantastic, we stayed at the Cuillen Hill Hotel over looking Portre.

Before the bridge on to Skye there is a famous castle if your a fan of the Highlander movies, the Eilean Donan castle is open to the public and if you get the right guide you get to hear alot of interesting stories about the castle.

The Culloden Battle field was a sobering sight, to stand on the spot where the English (and lowlander Scots) slaughtered the Highlanders and Jacobite's.

Loch Ness was an interesting place to visit, I was surprised at how large it was. Didn't see Nelly but I couldn't go home without atleast looking.

Stuart Castle near Inverness was interesting. When we were there the owners about to close it to the public and make it in to a B&B. The guide also had great stories of the castle and of its ghosts. Mary Queen of Scots was a Stuart I think and this castle may bave been built around the time she was alive. I would love to go back and spend the night.

I did not go to Glencoe but I plan on it next time. Being from Clan Donald I must go pay my respect and make sure there are no Campbells there.

Like I said I plan on going back to Scotland in 2006, in 1806 my family left the Isle of Mull to go to Prince Edward Island, Canada so I want to visit Mull on the 200th anniversary of their emigration.

Thats Seven

I never made it the Sterling, I drove by it but I would like to stop and William Wallace

I want to see the Edinborough Tatoo, I've seen the Nova Scotia Tatoo and it was great but the Edinborough one is the Meca.

Last, but not least. I fell in love with a beer at our local pub that is brewed south of Edinborough. "Traquair House" It is well known as the only inhabited residence that still brews beer for sale.

mmh they got that great project going in Stirling.. They are re-building the rooms in the Castle, and you can watch them doing it =)

when you're there, take a side trip to Loch Leven, there's a castle on the island (forgot the name) in which Mary Stuart was held for quite a while.

Well I have never been to Scotland, but it is a major dream of mine to go. I know so far that I want to go to:

1) Glasgow
2) Inverness
3) Edinburgh
4) The Highlands
5) Stirling and Eilean Donan castles
6) Culloden moor

I am sure there are other places I would like to know about and see, but that is all I know for now. unsure.gif Hubby and I were thinking about touring the country by train. What do you all think of that?

I would run around like a chicken with it's head cut off for a while. I would be too excited to focus. After someone smacks me to calm me down, well, I 'm not sure. I don't think I could contain the visit to only ten things to see. There is sooooo much to see and do. So many people to meet.

Well I don't know enough about Scotland yet but there are a few things/places I would visit.

Loch Lommond and surrounding area. Clan MacFarlane was supposed to have been in the area.

All the beautiful castles on hte Islands!

Edinburgh and Aberdeen
