A Tribute to the Women of my Family

Once there were five
One a WAAF, one a WREN,
One made bullets, the other made planes
One stayed at home to raise her child
Whilst her Husband fought in the Desert sands
He died of his wounds, In that far away land
These Daughter of Scotland
Carried on through the War And after,
All five left Scotlands fair shore
To the New World they came
Far from Hearth, far from Hame
To Canadas' lands, But it wasn't the same
No Highlands, no Glens and far from the sea
They lived out their lives
Raising Families
As the years hurried by they never forgot
The land of their Birth and how they had fought.
The WAAF at a Base, Watching Bombers return,
The WREN in the code room knowing which ships went down.
The one making planes saw the Spitfires fly by
The one making bullets lost the sight in one eye
These stories of Life. of War and of Love
They passed on to us to pass on to ours
Once there were FIVE but now there is ONE
These Daughters of Scotland
These Women we Love.

Camac,
You really have the heart of a poet and a man in love with his family.
This is a beautiful tribute indeed of the women of your family.
Thank you for sharing.LOA

fionadunbar:

Yeah Australia is a couple stoplights further on than Canada. In 1947 if my Dad had another 20 quid we would have gone to Australia but instead he brought us to his home in Canada.
