This weekend the Triad Highland Games are being held in Greensboro, NC. There will be bagpipes, dancing, clans, sottish athletics, sword demonstrations, gaelic, wrestling, pipe bands and dog demonstrations in Bryan Park north of Greensboro.

Everyone who shows, the beer is on me!

I wish I could go, but the wife and crew are wanting to go camping again this weekend, so I guess I'll have to miss it! sad.gif Sure sounds like fun though!

Great to meet the NC crew! Can anyone send me links or info on any Celtic stuff going on in the Triad area? I am in Durham. I went to a Renaissance fair this summer, and hear there is a great one in October(?). I would love to see more!! What fun! Isn't the weather beautiful today!? So much like Fall.

Hello Susieq. Glad to meet you. They don't let me out very often so I don't know all the latest stuff. The Highland games I know of in NC are Grandfather Mountain (in July), Lake Norman (don't remember, but think they're in late spring), Greensboro, and Red Springs (in October). There are probably more. If we can get a few more in NC, we may have our own gathering. biggrin.gif

Thanks for the info, CarolinaScotsman : ) They shouldn't let me out, but you know how it is here in the South - the crazies all hang out on the front porch! I would certainly qualify for that category....I know that Efland has a rodeo each year at the end of September, but that's hardly Celtic. The main ones I have heard of are the Renaissance fairs - one at the State Fairgrounds, and the other one in Greensboro or Charlotte (not sure which one). I can't wait for the one in the Fall partytime.gif

Don't know about the Ren Fairs. When/where is the one this fall. I have every other week end off, so there's a fifty fifty chance I could go.

This is one of the better places to check for Fests. Not all inclusive but it has most for the year.

Okay,

I found out some information on the Renaissance Fair. It's going to be in Huntersville, NC and the website is: Carolina Rennaisance Festival

I hope that helps - I am not sure how to insert hyperlinks here, so you may have to paste it into a new window. All the info you need will be on that very cool website. It runs from 10/2 - 11/14 on Saturdays and Sundays (so CarolinaScotsman can go) from 10:00 - 5:30 PM. Very cool! I'm really excited. Supposedly this fair is different from others because it is a village that remains up throughout the year, and isn't toted around. You can pick up tickets at Harris Teeter stores for a $1 less than ticket price, except for folks 60 and wiser - they buy discounted tickets on the day they come to the fair.

I will definitely be there!
