In my researching celtic music this band name has popped up. Apparently I missed the boat on them in the 80's. Where was I??
From what I have read they were a happening! It sounds like they were different and were a pretty significant band. They seemed to have a very devoted following.
I'm getting hooked myself on their music.

Anybody here a fan and can give some insight on this group and their history??

Hi togo. I really like the sounds that this band has put out over the years. I have them on myspace it is pretty informative. There's a lot of history behind this band. You might also wiki them. I hope this helps some what.

I've only recently discovered them for myself after hearing them on the radio but I had heard of them as a friend has been following them for years smile.gif

I first heard of the Waterboys back in 1988. But I only have one of their cd's: Fishermans Blues, which is fantastic!! There is another cd from that period that I want to pick up - Room to Roam. I understand it is as good as Fishermans Blues.

From what I understand, the Waterboys have gone through many personnel and style changes over the years. What you hear on Fishermans Blues may not necessarily be what you'll hear from the band today - this is just my opinion. Someone with more current knowledge about the band may have better insight.

I saw on amazon that the cd, "Room to Roam" was re-released as a special 2-disc set. The reviews were absolutely glowing. Guess I'll have to plead with the missus to let me order it!

JP, I've heard of the Waterboys, but don't know much about them. Would you describe them as Trad or more contemporary (at least, from the older recordings you are familiar with)?

Have a great day!

Haynes - Their earlier recordings would probably place them in rock with a definite traditional Irish-Scottish-British folkie flavor.

On the Room to Roam re-issue The Waterboys do a fantastic live version of the song Twa Recruitin' Sergeants. It's worth the price of the CD on its own.

Gotta agree! I also love the second song on the extra cd, "My Morag".
