To worship God.

Can't think of a better one.

To worship God and for the Chirstian fellowship.

I am a serious social butterfly so I really enjoy the fellowship. I do enjoy the teachings because it enriches my knowledge. It helps me to focus and dig deeper into the word. I also go for support and a shoulder to lean on sometimes.

Although we have lived here for 25 years, until very recently neither the wife nor I had any blood relatives nearby. Last winter, her sister moved up here. Our church has been our extended family for the past quarter decade. I go for all the other reasons; worship, fellowship, a responsibility to the Church, but I also go because going to church is a family get together for me.

I go to church to worship God and His Son Jesus.

To worship, fellowship, volunteer my time to the needs of others, for a deeper study of the Word.....desire, need,.....

To worship, learn something taught from the Bible, to encourage (and sometimes be encouraged by) other believers there.

Along with the usual list of fundamental reasons, I go to church for inner peace.

Posted by: cscunningham 01-Aug-2004, 09:29 AM
It re-news my soul. And it prepares me to meet the challenges of the new week with God at my side. No matter what life throws at me, I know that I am well armed to meet it.

I don't go to a building to worship or pray... my cathedral is the great outdoors as the creator made it!

Posted by: Elspeth 02-Aug-2004, 08:05 AM
As is mine, Shadows. But, I need more as well, so I go to church. The cathedral made by the hands of God feeds me, being in community with others, hearing sermons challenges me. I am challenged by the words of scripture, the words of the sermons and I am ultimately challenged when interacting with others in Christian love. rolleyes.gif I also go to church to contribute. If it were all about me, I'd not need a church building or family very much. Such is the life of an introvert. But, God gave me certain talents and it is my duty to share them for the good of the body. So, I sing in choirs and Praise Band. I lead children's choirs. I write plays and skits. I participate and sometimes teach Sunday School. And in the community I find something I would live without if it were up to me.

Well, I suppose there are several reasons why I go. For refreshment, to worship together with others, out of obedience to God's command, for the encouragement and fellowship of other Christians. I think all of these are important.

I go for feeding of the Word of God to me and for worship and praise to Him! smile.gif

Our Church has one of the most intelligent speakers I have ever heard. That is probably the reason I rarely miss a Sunday. But, also, I think it is important to hang our with other Christians, at least for a short while, as I don't work with any. Also, my little girl needs to hear about God and Jesus more than just from my wife and I. Finally, the music is quite good. It is easy to get into the rut of not going. I did that for a while, choosing the spend Sunday's "resting" or out in the woods or on the lake, but it is easy to fall into a self-centered form of worship by doing this. I guess that is why we actually need churches.

I hear what you say MacAibhistin! I really prefer to stay home on Sunday mornings in real truth and there are mornings that I do and it is real easy to get into that rut, but know I have so much to be thankful for and that God is always there for me that the least I can do is get out of that bed and worship and praise him with fellow believers and listen to the Word of God being spoken and encouragement and teaching for the week.

To express my faith in a community of like-minded believers. biggrin.gif

I enjoy going to church for many of the reasons already given. Unfortunately though, we have not been going for a while. sad.gif Our church is gong through some problems right now, so we are trying to wait them out. I hope everything turns around soon! To me, my church is a filling station and just now I am running on empty!

Wow, you're all going for such great and noble reasons. I go because my wife wants to go. I agree to go because I enjoy the fellowship and I learn something from the sermon, but I don't know that I would go if I were single.

My relationship with God is personal, and I don't feel like it suffers if I don't go to church. I'm not a BETTER Christian if I go to church, although I know that I get things from it that I wouldn't get if I didn't go.

Deckers! Thank you for your honesty. My husband is really into going to church to the point I think he is legalistic about it. I must say as much as I need to go cause I am thankful for many blessings, the study of the Word, the fellowship with other believers.............I go mostly because my husband insists we go. I am not a morning person so I would rather sleep in some Sunday mornings.

Allen! I am sorry to hear about your problems going on with your church. Been there and done that and it is very painful, is it not? I think that is the reason why I don't get involved with church anymore like I used to. Been through too many of those situations at churches I have attended.
