Oh, this is one of my favorite topics too! I have so many art books in my studio I could open up a book store! laugh.gif

my favorite era is the Victorian and the pre-raphaelite periods. My avatar is taken from the pre-raphaelite artist, John Waterhouse. My favorite art books are about the old masters: Rembrandt, Renoir, Monet, Mary Cassatt, Edmund Blair Leighton and many others.

Christopher Wood has an excellent book on Victorian art.

Who are your favorite artists and books about them?

I like many styles of art work. One that I feel is greatly over looked is that of the comic book illustator. Here is a sample of one of my fav Alex ross.. he has a coffee table book out.

Not all comic art is that good. Some is very poor quality. Not so detailed like above. Alex, tries to put the struggle and emotion in those characters that normally is NEVER touched.
The coffe table book is called Mythology. And it goes through the DC superheros- Superman, Batman Wonder Woman...etc...

I really enjoy the books that have been put together of Ansel Adams Photography. Great Stuff!

Over the years I've collected enough art books to open a library - my shelves overfloweth, shall we say! biggrin.gif

But I love books, and I love art - so to me, each publication is a treasure.

Favorites include books by artist Harley Brown, and books about my favorite artists:
Alfred Sisley
Berthe Morisot
Mary Cassatt
Monet
Edgar Degas
John Singer Sargent
Gustave Caillebotte
Dennis Miller Bunker

one of my favourites for Photography is Robert Vavra. His horse-photos are stunning.
I have seen alot of artworks in museums, so I don't usually go and buy published books. I have a very good Dalì collection though which I absolutely adore..

Yes. I couldn't remember what he did!!! so I had to look it up! LOL! But, yes... he has good stuff.

So does Joseph Micheal Linsner. He does the series Cry for Dawn, Crypt of Dawn, and now just plain ol' DAWN.

My current art books that I keep out of my book case for enjoyment are the following artists:

Harley Brown
Don Crowley
James Bama
Howard Terpening!

They are all southwestern artists who are part of the National Cowboy Artists of America.

Oh thank you, Aon! The Pre-Raphaelites were British artists and only fitting that something of theirs should be in an English church! Thanks for telling me! smile.gif I will try to research it and find out where.

As a student of Fine/Visual Art, I have many books ranging from every period of Art History in my book case. I've previously listed my favorites before on another thread. But here are a few of my favorites again:

Matisse, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cassatte, Joan Miro, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Rodin.

My favorite periods are the Fauve, Art Nouveau, Impressionism and Expressionism. I've never really knew what classification Waterhouse fell under, but I've always enjoyed his work. I think I need to study the Pre-Raphaelites a bit.
