We've been discussing elsewhere how music is a powerful tonic for writers/painters block, and a cure for the blues... I've found music to be a sure-fire pick-me-up with no bad side effects! Here are my Top Five Albums of all-time that never fail to uplift me:

Jesus Freak - dcTalk
Youth - Collective Soul
Change Everything - Del Amitri
Family Style - Stevie Ray & Jimmie Vaughan
Hey You I Love Your Soul - Skillet

What are yours??? walkman.gif

The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king..."

Well -- here goes. Showing my age, I guess:

Santana -- Abraxas
Joan Baez -- Baptism, a journey through our time
Buffy Saint Marie -- both 2-LP compilations (is that cheating? rolleyes.gif )
Laura Nyro -- Eli and the Thirteenth Confession
Blood Sweat and Tears -- the first album

My top 5 change all the time...

today's list...

Soundtrack from "Chicago" (movie version esp. the tango song)
Ceann - Almost Irish (great for driving in a snow storm!)
Chip Davis - Yellowstone (good for soaking in the tub)
Gaelic Storm - Special Reserve (another set of road tunes and just to get silly with)
Josh Groban - Closer (for chilling out)

--------------------
Senara-ism : Life is like a theatrical production only you get to be actor, director, and audience all at once. So break a leg, sit back and enjoy the show!

Thig crioch air an saoghal, ach mairidh gaol is ceòl.
The world will pass away, but love and music last forever.

What I listen to, and what gives best results, depends on what I'm up for. Therefore a top 5 list may be hard to come by. But I can tell you my favorite album, and favorite song.

Peter, Paul, and Mary -- The Best of: 10 Years Together

And my favorite song of all time is "Day is Done" from that album. Every time I hear it, it conjours one of the earliest memories I have. Also, this album is one of 2 that I grew up with, which actually scared me one night. Both albums are ones I liked, and listened to all the time. And then one night listening to it, I just went to pieces. Each of these two albums only did so once, and no other album has done that since. The other album that did this was Heart -- Bad Animals
Now to try to continue the list,

The Beatles -- 1962-1966
Neil Diamond -- Hot August Night
Guns and Roses -- Appetite for Destruction
Loreena McKennitt -- Parallel Dreams

However, only the Peter, Paul, and Mary album would be carved in stone in its position. I've gotten some wierd looks when I've told people I wouldn't have it on CD too. Give me 1500 copies on LP, but if you're going to hand me a CD of it, it'd better be made from the LP.

Difficult to answer this question, my favourite albums are changing almost every day ! biggrin.gif

So, today, I would say :

Requiem - W A. Mozart
Philip Glass - Songs from the trilogy
St Germain - Tourist
Massive Attack - Protection

Huh. . . unsure.gif
I wasn't thinking classical. Well, in that case, I must add:

Mahler's Ninth, Von Karajan (a late performance)

a buster of a performance of The Planets (Holst) with Adrian Boult conducting

a live recording of Beethoven's Ninth made by Bernstein shortly before he died

Mahler's First, Seiji Ozawa

a beautiful recording of Josquin des Prez motets and masses, Hilliard Ensemble

Hmm...as of this date, my five would be

1. Enya, Watermark
2. Pat Metheny, Still Life Talking
3. Newsboys, Going Public (a new favorite)
4. Old Blind Dogs, Fit?
5. Alison Krause, Now That I've Found You

Only #s 1 and 2 are in stone. The others will probably change.

You know, I considered listing Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits (double CD). When I am on the road, I play the heck out of that thing!!!
