Ok, here's a spot with recordings even the older folks on here may only remember their parents or grandparents playing!

http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/search.p...rder=ia&start=1

I went looking for a recording of the cylinder I have, and found it for download here (number 3479 in the index, Golden and Hughes, "My Uncle's Farm" Edison Records recording number 1511, it's funny).

There are several Irish and Scottish tunes sprinkled through the collection, and so far in the first 2000 or so, I've only found one I recognise. Then there's another really funny tune, "How do They Know that I'm Irish?" lol.gif I dunno if you could play it nowadays due to regular use of what appears to be some Anti-Irish racial slur that I can't quite make out, making frequent appearances. But it's funny anyway.

I started listening to these things, and 2 things surprised me. one is, they're surprisingly good quality (although still understandably very far from hi-fi). The second is, I like a lot of what I've heard. I never expected I'd like much 1900-1920's pop.
