Thanks for posting that dundee, that's the first one with the chords I've found online. I sat and fiddled around with it too. I'm uploading what I came up with.

I also found out the places.. According to the author of the song (Pat McKernan) it's Claddagh.....Clew Bay. rolleyes.gif

PS: I'm new here, too - so Hi everybody biggrin.gif

Yeah, Foam makes sense. It sounded like either fall or phone...neither made any sense. Foam fits, Thanks

Matt

I dunno -- I've often longed from far away over the phone. . . tongue.gif

Evidently it is a gentleman in Australia by the name of Pat McKernan that wrote Geraldine's Thinking of Galway. meliszabeth is correct. On McKernan's website he refers to the Fureys are going to record it as well. At one point both the McKrells and The Fureys played together at a concert.

The tune that is played here appears to be off of the McKrells' "Live" album and is listed in the album's contents.

According to meliszabeth, she has the correct lyrics with guitar tablature.

QUOTE
Geraldine's Thinking of Galway
(McKernan)

V1:

Oh the [G]dawn it is breaking [Em]Geraldine's waking ; Far [D]away from the place she calls [G]home
A new day is dawning and [Em]Geraldine's longing ; For a [D]place far away o'er the [G]foam
She'd [C]always [D]intended to [G]travel ; But she [C]never [G or Em]intended to [D]stay
Geraldine's thinking of [G]Galway ; And [C]Galway's a [D]long way [G]away.

Chorus:

[C]Geraldine's thinkin' of [G]Galway again ; You can [D]tell by the look in her [G]eyes[G7]
[C]Sometimes alone in the [G]night time ; [Em]Geraldine [D]cries
She can [C]still see the moon over [G]Claddah ; Or that [Em]sun going [D]down in [C]Clew Bay
Geraldine's [D]thinking of [G]Galway ; And [C]Galway's a [D]long way [G]away.

V2:

Oh the [G]band it is playing and [Em]Geraldine's swaying ; To the [D]tune of 'A Pair of Brown [G]Eyes'
Somebody calls her for a [Em]small bit of order ; While the [D]fiddler plays 'Danny Boy'
As she [C]listens the [D]music [G]transports her ; To [C]far away [G or Em]over the [D]sea
Geraldine's thinking of [G]Galway ; [C]That's where she's [D]longing to [G]be.

Welcome melizabeth!

Your welcome, dundee.

Dug a little on the Fureys and their recordings but was unable to find anything. Possibly in the studio recording? It looks like they may be due for another album soon.

Geraldine('s Thinking of Galway)

Pat McKernan

Oh the dawn it is breaking Geraldine's waking
Far away from the place she calls home
A new day is dawning and Geraldine's longing
For a place far away o'er the foam
She'd always intended to travel
But she never intended to stay
Geraldine's thinking of Galway
And Galway's a long way away.

Chorus:

Geraldine's thinkin' of Galway again
You can tell by the look in her eye
Sometimes alone in the nighttime
Geraldine cries
She can still see the moon over Claddah
Or the sun going down in Kilday
Geraldine's thinking of Galway
And Galway's a long way away.

Oh the band it is playing and Geraldine's swaying
To a tune with a pair of brown eyes
Somebody calls her a bit of small order
While the fiddler plays Danny Boy
As she listens the music transports her
To far away over the sea
Geraldine's thinking of Galway
And that's where she's longing to be.
