Celtic Radio Community > General Discussion > Celts And Native North Americans

There are thoughts going about in the world that Celts and Native North Americans are somehow related. Certainly there are many similarities between the two, too many to relate here. I for one do believe that there is a connection. What do you think?

As a Native American I will say that, yes, there are MANY similarities.
Is there a relationship? I would say no.
I have had a rough day of pouring concrete, and I will gladly discuss this at length later. But for tonight, I am FAR too beat to go into it!

You have my respect for engaging in that type of work! I have offered my services on concrete jobs twice in pouring/finishing over the last 15 or so years and it is not something I will do agin. You quickly find your weak areas, of which I have many. In my younger days I could easily do concrete work but that ability has escaped me somewhere of late.

There are several similarities between Native Americans/First People, the pre-Christian Celts, the tribes of Africa and Australian Aborigines because of similar customs, but I don't think there's any direct ancestral link.

Hello, Rhymer and welcome. You have posed a good topic.

I have pondered this myself. I wish I could find an article that I read about Celts in China.

It doesn't seem impossible does it? Most believe that the early Indians migrated from Russia over the Bering Straits. Why couldn't they have been Celts?

You will find interesting information here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/596542/posts. Be sure to read down through the post because there are good references to other articles on the subject.

I seem to remember somewhere on the mythical Ireland website they had an article or video about some of the Celtic symbols that were found somewhere in the U.S. They had hypothosized about a possible merging between the celts and the indians.

Off topic as it may be;

In reply to Flora. Yes I read that article as well.Think it was to do with an archaological
dig in Northern China.They found mummified bodies still in a good state because of conditions. The thing was these mummies had reddish/fair hair and were wearing plaid clothing. Co incidental mmmmmm. The Celts or Keltoi originated in what was known as indo-european culture. They emigrated west had lands in the middle east..Galatia. So what was to stop them heading east as hunter gatherer nomads, and crossing over at the Bering straits. I do believe the similarities are too many to just be coincidence. Anyway the arguments and discussions go on.
