Posted by: Macfive 17-Mar-2007, 07:20 AM
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone. Looks like the Leprechauns were good and did not raise havoc on our website! Everything appears to be running ok.

Please note our special schedule today which will include a St. Patrick's Day show played at 9:00 AM and at 10:00 PM along with a special interview with the Celtic Tenors at 7:00 PM tonight. All of these excellent shows are hosted by Charles Dewhurst and the "No Celtic Boundaries" team! We will also be playing our top ten count down, Celtic Radio Music Awards and other specials throughout the day!

Although not with the weather, I don't ever recall a St. Patrick's Day snow storm in Boston, but we got about 8 inches of snow until it turned ice and then to a hard cold rain. We are hoping the Leprechauns will do a little magic and clear up the weather a bit for the 106th annual Boston's St. Patrick's Day parade in old Southie. The parade begins at 1:00 PM over at the Broadway 'T' Station and ends at Andrew Square, South Boston. Your best bet for viewing the parade is to stake out a spot anywhere along Broadway!

Ok, on with today's prizes and giveaways. We have an excellent selection of 12 CDs to giveaway including a just received, hot off the press copy of The Fuchsia Band's Gra Da Raibh new CD. This CD includes the hit track from the movie, "The Wind that Shakes the Barley". We literally just opened up this package, so a big thank you to The Fuchsia Band and to Máirtín De Cógáin!

Were also going to throw in some Celtic Radio Bumper Stickers, a few posters from the "The Wind that Shakes the Barley" and a few Celtic Radio of Tshirts.

Prizes will be given away throughout the day from this morning to late tonight. We will announce the prizes in this message thread along with the details how you can win. This year we will be making announcements on our broadcast, so if you want to win you will have to listen and watch our site! We will also officially announce the end of our Celtic Radio Music Awards which will include the naming of a 2006 Album of the Year!

Here are the list of CDs we are giving away:

The Fuchsia Band, Gra Da Raibh
Sharon Knight, Song of the Sea
Bill Thurman, The Celtic Collection
Al Pettyeway & Amy White, Acoustic Journey
Máirtín De Cógáin, False Start
Danny Ray Cole, Irish Fun
Kennedy's Kitchen, A Pocketful of Lint
The Fuchsia Band, Debut album
MacTalla Mor, Jacob's Ladder
The Sandcarvers, Dealin's Craic
Brian Freeman, A Bottle and a Friend.
Tommy Byrnes, Alehouse Insurrections

So, stake out the CD you want to watch and listen carefully!

Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone!

Alright! The first CD goes to Haynes who was the first to respond to our broadcast announcement for this CD! Make sure that you listen and watch this thread!

The next CD is Máirtín De Cógáin False Start album. Máirtín does some excellent singing and story telling on this CD. A real keeper:

Thanks for the great music! You folks are brightening my day. I am a psychotherapist and get inspiration through this music for helping my people through the twists and turns they are needing to navigate. I play bowed psaltery, mountain dulcimer, guitar and harmonica. I like Celtic, Bluegrass and other folk music, and appreciate the work you and your listeners are doing to advance some playful, creative, sane culture in the world! Peace and God be under, before and behind you.

What a wonderful way to enjoy St. Pat's! I'll have this music playing all day today. I remember as a child my Italian grandparents would send me a card (and a little cash) on St. Patrick's Day because he's my patron saint. Perhaps that's one reason that I have a fondness for all things Irish. :-)

Posted by: Ambrosius 17-Mar-2007, 11:53 AM

Greetings all,

There is a tiny wee error, The Interview I did tonight is with the Celtic Tenors, not the Irish Tenors.

For those of you interested, In the Rugby six nations, France beat us Scots, Ireland beat the Italians and at present Wales are running circles around the English.

I can't think of a better way to spend today. Listen to such wonderful music and trying to help Fionna beat her "bad luck".. I was sitting around like a sad sack when I got the email for the broadcast. My daugher, 18 month old grandson & son-in-law are moving to Germany on Monday for three years. I am very excited for them, (thankful its not Iraq again) but still sad. This has really made my day better. Thanks to you all and Highlander Radio.

Sure hearing some mighty awesome music in between, though.

Slainte!

Four years ago, a foot of wet snow hit NYC for the annual St. Patty's Day Parade. I found a pub near the parade and stayed there for the duration. Couldn't get in or out of NYC- but no one (including me) cared! It was a great time in spite of the weather. Just made us have a better time! The amount we had yesterday at least had time to be cleared before the parade.

I just wish I could hook up some more speakers so I could listen while I'm downstairs, too. The compy is upstairs and I guess I won't venture too far from it all day today. Geez, I'm getting hungry, too. I suppose I'll have to tear myself away to run down to the kitchen and grab something quickly.

The music today is simply grand!

Infamous - - that sounds like a great time to me...very memorable.

pretentiouswombat - I agree...I'm goin about the house doing things - fortunately can hear it playing as I go. I love it...excellent music. Fills my heart.

Wow! I guess my patron saint was helping me out today - I actually won! I got the Danny Ray Cole CD and I didn't even know it. (I'm so lame) I sent in my email as soon as I heard it announced and then kept bopping back and forth from playing some online games whilst listening to the music, occasionally checking the board here. I totally missed the post where I won. This is soooo cool.

Thanks bunches!

Patti :-)

Okay - this is really coincidental. I just visited the website for Danny Ray Cole and he lives here in Georgia - in fact, probably less than an hour from me. So, here I went and won his cd and didn't even know that.

I have some charity knitting to do today (my group is having a Knit-Along) and I do believe it calls out for some green yarn. I shall go hunt some up and warm up the knitting needles.

Congrats, Fionna! That's fantastic!

If I was doing my twice/month volunteering at the Shakespeare Tavern tonight, I'd be able to get myself a free pint o'Guinness! But, alas, opening weekend was last weekend and I worked last Saturday. We're doing Love's Labours Lost and, since we also serve pub food and drink, I alternate between working the door or (teehee) working the bar ;-) Ah yes, the perks are good. Free show and one free libation. Darn, I don't know anyplace local that serves Guinness on tap, either.

Of course, I really shouldn't drink and knit, anyway. Might accidentally come up with a whole new pattern.

Later we have to go to son's house for a st. patty's poker party. I will have to hook up to the computer over there so I can introduce all the Celts & Notre Dam fans there to this great site.

This is my first day here and I'm still trying to figure things out and my way around here. I've been reading the post and listening to the great music. I haven't quite figured out how to post yet and am not sure if this will work. I love the bagpipes. My 17 year old son and 9 year old daughter don't. My grandmother always told me only a true Scotsman could love the pipes. I love the flutes and harps. Jean-Thomas says they are Heaven's music and I miss him so. Sarah, who is 7 is enjoying the music with me. We have been having fun dancing and clapping together.

My grandmother always told me that half our family came over on the ship and the other half were here the other half were here to meet them. It is a bit hard at times. It dos get quite cold here. Infact the storm that hit Boston was here only last week. We have had a bit of a warm up. Snow is melting and rivers are at or near flood stage. Jim's family is northern and he doesn't go south much.
Julianna has lived all her life in Illinois and hated it when we first took her to school. Said we were dumping her in the middle of nowhere where they spoke a strange language. Now she loves it and is engaged to a nice mountain boy.

The last CD we are giving away is The Fuchsia Band's Gra Da Raibh. This is a really new CD we just received it and it has a song from that new movie out - Wind that Shakes the Barley.

Well, thats our last message in this thread - Happy Saint Patrick's Day everyone and have a great night! wink.gif

Thank you for your help. I sent an email. I'm not sure I got it right with all the information needed. I wasn't expecting to win anything. I was enjoying the music and stories and I think I found a new friend.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

working on St. Patty's day sucks. sad.gif

Posted by: gcw57 18-Mar-2007, 04:26 AM
sad.gif I only get to listen at night on the West Coast, so I missed out today.

That's okay though. I love listening to CelticRadio whenever I get the computer and I have won a CD in the past. note.gif

Congratulations to those who won prizes and to MacFive and Killian (Happy Birthday!) and everyone who makes CelticRadio such a fabulous place to come and spent a few hours. walkman.gif

I hope everyone enjoyed St. Patrick's Day. It is not much celebrated around here but I put on my Ireland rugby jersey and went for a Guinness. beer_mug.gif

Aahh, only 364 more days until St. Patrick's Day! biggrin.gif

What an unbelievable day for Celtic Radio! While we did not beat the # of members online at 1 single time, we certainly had the MOST number of people to our site EVER in 1 day.

We also had nearly 100 new members sign-up which I think may very well be a record too.

Nearly 14,000 page views and about 2,300 individuals visited the site. On the broadcast side we estimate that about 3,500 tuned in sometime during the day.

My thanks for Killian for taking over towards the end. I was getting a bit punchy and I am certain I may have put a CD in the fish tank on my desk had she not wrestled the controls from me! wink.gif

Our goal today is to get all of the contest prizes packaged up and mailed. We really wish we could have a prize for everyone! Thanks for making a great day in Celtic Radio history and also for such an exciting St. Patrick's Day for those online and not able to get out to a pub or party.

I'd also like to mention our personal thanks and appreciation to members of the Celtic Radio Founder's Club which provides the funds necessary to buy all of the packaging and postage to make these contests happen. We would not have these contests without their support!

Gotta agree with haynes and bfedei.

Just checking in to see what happened after I left. I must say, even though I wasn't out at any parties or pubs, I still enjoyed being in and spending a good part of my St. Patty's Day here at Celtic Radio with some really nice people. It was fun!

Thanks for all your hard work for making this a great website, and a fantastic radio station. Oh..and....I'm lookin forward to that Bumper Sticker! :-)

Thank you rhachet, Killian, and Macfive for making me feel welcome here. I never expected to win anything. I look forward to receiving the cd. I came for the music and stories and found special friends. rhachet I sent you an email, I hope it isn't too long. I rarely write much or talk much to someone I just met but somehow you seem like family and a special person I can trust.
