Celtic Radio Community > General Discussion > So I Shave My Legs! The're Nice Legs!

Posted by: single speed 03-Aug-2005, 09:21 PM

Let me preface this by stating why cyclists shave their legs. Injuries such as road rash heal quicker on hairless legs. That is why cyclists, Tri-athletes and some runners shave their lower extremities. Nuff said.

Here is my dilemma. Shaving is a pain and it kills my razors. Do any of you ladies have any tips on shaving? Any recommendations for shaving alternatives? My leg hair is very fine, so I only have to attack it with a razor 2x a week, but I would like to tackle the problem less often. So, that is my dilemma. Any help out there?

I have heard of this before, actually.

You can try using separate disposible razors for your legs. You can try an electric shaver on them. Or you can use chemical depilatories, whch are nicer to the skin than they used to be, and don't stink like they used to either. And the legs are smooth for a little longer too.

Wax, though -- wax is for masochists. sad.gif

Bah...depilatories, she is for the weak. Now, an Epilady is the true mark of a masochist. LOL

A good shaving will effectively kill a disposable razor on about the third use. Get used to this fact.

Personally, I like the ones on the market now...what are those? Um...Intuition, with the soap/cream built around the blade. Those work very nicely. Then again, I'm lazy and don't like fiddling with shaving creams.

I used to shave my legs for swim team when I was in highschool. I only did it once a year though. Man its hard to shave a years worth of hair off your legs.

Posted by: stoirmeil 04-Aug-2005, 02:15 PM
Well -- I know that couldn't have been for asphalt burns. smile.gif Why does a swimmer do it? To reduce drag?

And hey, guys. Once you get the shaving down, you're really going to like the feel of panty hose.

No, try it. It didn't hurt Joe Namath any. wink.gif

Posted by: CelticCoalition 04-Aug-2005, 02:30 PM
yeah, it's for less drag in the water. We did it for the big meet every year to help cut a couple tenths of a second off our time. I think it was a psychological help too. Kinda like "If I shaved my legs for this damn thing I better go faster..."

LOL My husband was in swim team too...he could never break down and shave the legs though. Wear a speedo two sizes too small, yes. But shaving was humiliating. ::cough, snicker::

Ew. No depilatory for the bikini line either, I bet. dry.gif

Fortunately he isn't by nature very furry. Thank all the applicable gods.

I understand why on the bikes...

I find all of this very interesting.. I never knew these guys in swimming shave their legs..learn something everyday..

Not sure but why???

I bet they are nice legs too if you are biking all the time! And sorry to tell you...there just is no easy way...we ladies have been doing it the hard way for years...but if you want that nice smooth skin on your legs...well...you just have to keep shaving...Not too bad if you are only doing it 2 or 3 times a week...and lucky for you it is a fine sort of hair...things could be worse! I think we'd like to see a pic of you in your biking gear and those nice smooth legs! Are you biking for fun or do you race? Or well, I guess it is still for fun...but...what sort of biking do you do?

Posted by: dundee 05-Aug-2005, 08:40 AM

It was always really weird jumping in the pool after shaving the legs. Very weird feeling, but kinda nice. Bed sheets were weird too.

Posted by: talleyrand 05-Aug-2005, 10:23 AM
CC try shaving your head, that'll give you an equally weird sensation lying in bed the first night.

In college, I could always tell when sectionals or whatever was coming around because that week the swim team would start sporting some interesting hair styles. The day of the meet they'd shave all exposed hair but prior to it, they'd celebrate their upcoming trimmings with things like inverted mohawks and shaved heads with hair in hand prints and things like that. I really wish I had pictures to show.

I actually do shave my head now, and admit that at first it was very strange. Now however I dont' know if I'll ever go back. I only have to "do" my hair once a week, or every two if I'm really lazy. It takes 5 minutes, and is free.

Plus, I don't have hat hair ever, or bad hair days, or bed head.

I'ts awesome!

DON'T fall off your bike!!!!!!!

It?s not that I fall, it?s that the ground pulls me down. Gravity and inertia do the rest. Crashing is never my fault, it?s the asphalt! rolleyes.gif

Hmmm. sounds like I'm going to have to keep on shaving. I have discovered that women's razors work better than mine (on my legs).

Amy, I am mostly a roadie. I r1de about 6,000 miles a year. My first love is mountain biking, but San Antonio does not have the awesome trails that Phoenix has (and they are not as conveniently located). I ride the mountail bike about oince a week. As far as pictures go, there is one in my profile and one here....

PS The best part about cycling is that i can still knock back a few pints on Friday without guilt.

I use the Mach 3 and the blades hold up pretty well. The refills are expensive, but they work! rolleyes.gif As for having to shave less often? If you figure out the secret to that, then please share it with the rest of the ladies on here! laugh.gif

Posted by: ArizonaAmy9 05-Aug-2005, 05:18 PM
Hi Terry...

Thanks for directing me to your pic..and bikers always do have nice legs! I asked because my bro-in-law loves to mtn bike (he lives in Utah) but he is now considering training for a triathalon (I think that is it) as he also runs marathons as well. A roadie then would be one...who rides...mostly streets then? As you can see...I am not a bike rider of any sort! Hum...maybe I should consider trying it though so I can have great legs too!

Mach 3 Power here - men's version and shaving gel. Never cut myself either. tongue.gif

I also use the Mach 3. You are so lucky. Fine hair and only shave 2x. I would give anything for that.
