Janet, don't ever think that! I travel to the Appalachians 3-4 times a year... And I LOVE the dialect. I hope to move there some day. It is where I feel most comfortable and at home. My family comes from the WV area of the Apps. So, it's in me blood.. wink.gif

Oh yeah! Not to mention a lady with a southern draw.....

MMmmmmmm smile.gif

EXACTLY My in-laws are from Grayson County, KY ( I know, not appalachia) and they have the best drawl. Mine is a combination of a few. I have lived in SOuthern Indiana (May as well be Kentucky), Lexington, KY, and Jackson Mississippi. It is a fairly interesting comnbination.

I have some friends who live in Georgetown, KY. I enjoy visiting there when I can, which isn't nearly often enough. Nothing like a visit to the horse park in February, 'specially for an Alaskan.

I do believe that the slowest tawlkin' folks in alla the wide world come from east Tayksas (that'd be Texas in most folk's English). It's fun to hear, but requires some patience. It takes awhile to have a conversation. I sort of like to think it comes from having a laid back lifestyle that doesn't require one to be in a hurry.

Alaskan Native villagers often tend to speak English slowly, sort of clipping their words and slurring syballents (spelling ?). "This is" is often pronounced "Dishes". Anyway, I find their accent pleasant. It's as though they are speaking very deliberately and thoughtfully.

HOORAY. My relief is finally here. I get to go home for a couple of weeks.

To quote a rather notorious actor, FRREEEDDDDOOOOMMMMM!!!!

I don't have an accent, but my girlfriend must be reliving past lives or something...She's lived in southern Ohio her whole life, but at least once a day she slips into an Irish accent...

Well that's about what I know in Spanish... but I'm lucky, I come from a multi-national family, I'm quite fluent in french and italian, and the spanish words I don't know I make up... I think my teachers hated me for that laugh.gif

We have people here from all over the world, and going to WalMart can seem like a visit to the Towel of Babel - the din of it all!

Hehehe Janet, nice one! I wonder what kind of towel that might be ... biggrin.gif dry.gif
