Here's a little tid-bit of info on the man who started the Guinness brewery...Arthur Guinness who was in 1759, 34 years old and experienced in brewer, decided to sit up buisness in Dublin.  His new premises covered a mere one acre at St. James's Gate on the banks of the Liffy.  Small beginnings certainly, but that did not deter his ambition, if the lease is anything to judge by.  It was for 9,000 years at 45 Pounds p.a.  The economical climate at the time did not encourage optimism, competition was stiff as a result of English imports.  In spite of it all, the Guiness brewery florished and grew.  The beer gets it's dark color from the rousted barley.
