I am currently enrolling in Medicare. I think I want Parts A and B with a Drug Plan part D. How many of you have Medicare Advantage Plans and how many have original Medicare with a Part D drug plan? What has been your experience with your plan and what do you recommend. I am not yet eligble for a Medigap plan (have to wait til I turn 65).

I have A and B in a "hybrid" plan with Aetna. My retirement system covers medications. Those I know with D, say you have to spend a lot of time researching the different drug plans as you can easily get in trouble with coverage. D was obviously written by a bunch of ignorant politicians!

Agree with Patch on the need to be careful. I was all set to sign up for Part D when I found out that doing so would result in termination of my retirement health, which I need so my wife will have coverage until she is eligible for Medicare.
It seems like you need an attorney and an accountant to sort through all the options.

My experience with Medicare has been a joke. I registered for Medicare when I turned 65. Well, I was penalized because I was to suppose to apply for Medicare at 641/2. I did not know that. After applying and proving that I was who I was and that I was indeed 65 my Medicare Card came in the mail for me and my wife. A week later I received a bill for not applying at 64 1/2 for my wife and me. I paid the premiums from 641/2 through June and from June to October. The total amount paid was around $1600.00. I went to my doctor the other day to have my blood work done. Before I was 65 I presented my private insurance card and paid the $20 copay and my private insurance paid the balance. Since I have turned 65 I presented my Medicare card and did not have to pay the copayment. About a two weeks after my doctor's visit I get these statement from Medicare. Medicare would pay only $89.00 of the $145.00 office visit and I would be responsible for the balance. After paying $1600.00 in premiums to Medicare I am stuck with a doctor's bill that I did not have to pay before Medicare got involved with my health care. Now can you imagine what will become of health care if the government begins running a new health care program. I have parts A & B of medicare. My private insurance has a drug plan. What a ripoff Medicare is!!

Your experience is similar to many others who deal with the system. Imagine that they take another 500B away from medicare. There is not all that much left now!

We must keep pressure on our senators and congressional representatives. Send letters, E-mails, faxes and make phone calls. Scare the s#it out of them. Unemployment (THEIR OWN) they understand!

Hi there,

Me and my family are covered under Medigap. Our advisory, advised us to go for Part A. I came across an article on Caring.com. Just have a look at it. Hope it helps. Medigap Premiums and payments

Age 65 is not an indication of senility but by that age most of us have dealt with serious illness. The need for attention to minor details and understanding convoluted logic should be left for younger people.

Imagine if the government runs the entire health care system. It will weed out the seriously ill quickly!
