Name: Ostara, Vernal Equinox. Pronounced: Oss-tara. Date: 21st March. Stage in Cycle: Maturing of the God.
Being a minor Sabbat this is more an observance of the equinox (equal length of day and night) than a stage in the cycle of the God and Goddess. However, there is still some importance.
Ostara is where the Christian's derive their word Easter. Easter falls on a different day every year, this may have something to do with the Equinox astrologically varying in days from year to year - however it is symbolically celebrated (as with all Solar Sabbats) on a set day - the 21st.
I'll be Joining my next-door neighbor to celebrate. Ostara this year. As I am only learning, regarding my path this will be the first year that I will be with others for this Sabbat. I'll take along some spring flowers to decorate the house and coloured eggs as well as biscuits in the shape of hares to share. How will others be celebrating? BB Jax
