I love scarecrows. They have this aura about them, a sence of unknown. Is there some kind of life in that body... does he long to be off his cross? Is there a monster underneath the hat.....I just think they provoke an exillerating, unsettleing fear.....like being watched

Scarecrow

Beneath luminous disk, he hangs
like the martyr of life
Causing fear in the youngest of hearts
Is he what bumps in the night?
His ragged pants and flannel shirt
Wanting the life that beats in every chest
O' this man of straw, and hay
Listen to him moan
Is he the cause of your deepest fears?
To sleep by security of light
For fear he just might
That you feel his lips of burlap at you neck
Devouring lifes necture sweet
Wake in a panic for fear of the night
Creep to the window to see if he still hangs
Out the glass, by break of day
Poised like a sacrificial bane
He is there to scare another day

Jason, This is awesome. smile.gif

I too have always loved scarecrows, but more as the Wizard of Oz, loveable type.

Now, I'm scared!. fear.gif

I especially liked,

Is he what bumps in the night?
His ragged pants and flannel shirt
Wanting the life that beats in every chest

Is he the cause of your deepest fears?

and

Wake in a panic for fear of the night
Creep to the window to see if he still hangs
Out the glass, by break of day

Jason,

This one is very good indeed! Great imagery and descriptive language!
I like the way you think...your always looking for the mysterious and strange. tongue.gif
I remember as a child visiting a relative's farm in Georgia and seeing a scarecrow in the corn field and being scared silly. I too felt like someone was watching me...jeepers-creepers! unsure.gif fear.gif

Have you ever thought of writing a children's book? The scarecrow would be a great theme or storyline especially after you've finish adding your magic touch of the mysterious and strange. Children would love it. Not for the kids 5 and under though. wink.gif

Hey there Bardy *hugs*
I really like this last one, he came to life visualy for me, very quickly, which I find is hard for most writers to do for me. but he also gave me that sense of fear with the sucking of life part, kinda reminded me of a Vamp sucking the lifes blood away from it's prey. WOW! what a visual!!!!!
This one is great!

See ya soon.

Jason,

I liked both The Sea and Scarecrow. Thanks for sharing.

From the inside-

He lies in the bed
motionless
voices of his loved ones come out of the darkness
Alive with no voice, no motion
he sceams wicked screams that only he can hear
By their reaction it is as if he isn't here
hours pass as if weeks, weeks as if months
this prison of the mind, that is his cell
until the door opens and conciousness
means he's well

Thank you. smile.gif This was inspired by my friends dad who had a minor stroke a few weeks ago, and then a coma. It was very upsetting for my friend because they did not know the extent of damage caused by the stoke, because he was in a coma. And i was thinking what his dad might be thinking having all his loved ones around, and not being able to say or do anything. That seems very frightening to me! But thankfully he is doing well, and the stroke seems to have not done any real damage....
