I was lucky enough two years ago to take part in a celebration on my city's courthouse steps on Tartan day. It was so important to me, I skipped work for half a day *shhh* just to dance two flings on a set of steps. I was really proud to know that our government was taking a part in it's rich heritage. But, being in Oz, I heard literally nothing about it at all.. and I did hear about St, Patrick's day in the US. Though Tartan Day is not an official holiday over here, apparently St. Pat's is.. maybe that's why. So I read msn.com.. and saw a bit mentioned about the pipes in NYC. SO, i didn't get my tartan day fill.. typically i wear a tartan ribbon pinned over my right shoulder. All that needs to be done is the local pipes, drums and dancers need to get out there and notify the general public that it's in deserve of being celebrated. as well as local st andrew's societies and burns' clubs, etc.. and they need to keep doing it every year until it's tradition. Tartan Day is an official holiday and should be recognized as such. The Scots have done a lot for our country. (read about it) The word just needs to be spread. (to this day I know a lot of dancers and teachers that have no idea Tartan Day exists!
anywyas, my thoughts were definately with you all on Tartan Day
I finally found some pictures of Tartan Day in NYC. I didn't see nothing on the telly, was very disappointed. If anyone is interested here is the website.... www.tunesofglory2002.com
