QUOTE (ANNHAM @ 26-Sep-2004, 08:03 PM) | Hi Sekhmet, I've been out of town for the weekend, but just signed up for the Discussion List. How's it going?? Anne |
...well...
All things considered, not bad.
Let me give you a bit of the backstory:
I'd been a member of the list for a while (actually I forget when I signed on), and I had never seen a post on it. And I mean *never*. The list was apparently taken over not that long ago by a man in Scotland, and the silence was apparently deafening for him.
In fact, he used an interesting interpretation of Rootsweb's rules to decide that there were no "serious" subscribers to the list and he purged the entire digest half of the list. Every. Single. Last. One. And he never offered an explanation until he was already done kicking everyone off the Digest, so they never knew what hit them. Naturally enough, hissy fits ensued.
From what I can interpret from the half-hints I'm getting from him, he kinda knew he screwed up, but pride wouldn't let him admit this, so he wanted out of being the admin.
That's where I come in.
I've been fielding complaints that should be addressed to him by irate former listers wanting to "talk to the admin" about their being kicked off, and on a few occasions even when I explain that I'm the *new* admin and I don't do things like that...well, they want to vent their spleen, and I'm the most convenient target. Fortunately the majority haven't been like that.
I've been getting a decent amount of replies with just the first question, which was "to which clan do you belong or think you might?" And the dialogue has been sporadic, but it's at least there!
I want to keep at least some traffic going on there so that it doesn't become a "dead" list. Ideas would be most welcome!
