I'm not sure this is the proper place to post this comment, but I wasn't able to post it in "News".
I've seen that the maximun amount of songs to request has decreased. I wonder what make you change that system, as for what I've seen there's hardly ever somebody requesting songs. I even tough about suggesting to encrase the max numer, as I have the sensation of beeing the only one requesting.
Anyway, It's also good to listen to new songs and discover new music.
Come on fellows, use that request chance, and request your favourite songs! I'm willing to listen to them!

O'siyo, I too noticed just today that one can only request one song per hour Kinda wish you could request at least two an hour but, rules are rules and it won't prevent me from 'hangin' out' here! Keep up the fantastic work Mister MacFive ~~Sty-U P.S. I wish there was a Harley ridin' emoticon

We are making some changes to our request system. The reasons are three fold:
1. DMCA regulations require that songs be delayed for atleast 1 hour from a request.
2. We are just getting to many requests to realistically play throughout the day. Our queue will fill up with the same songs each and every day. You might have 2-3 hours of songs to play at this time. We also noted that during some of these multiple requests that our listener numbers drop substantially.
3. New music is not being played! We have so many excellent new artists that we have added to our broadcast, yet some of them have only been played once in a 2 month period!
To the listeners and members that love to request songs and many of them, I am truly sorry we can not accommodate the frequency and number of requests. We may in the future be able to have an all request hour or two, so we will try to fit this into the broadcast. Also, I think during our chat times and special occasions we will open up the request line for lots of requests. Thanks for your understanding.
New Request policy:
- 1 song per member every 60 minutes. - 10 songs max per day. - 1 hour delay for all requests.

O'siyo Mac, Now those are great ideas! An all request hour or two would be fantastic as would 'special occassion' nites open for requests! Ni Ya We for explaining the request situation..much appreciated ~~Sty-U

Really? How queer. No offense, but at first I was just thinking "that's a weird lie to tell just to keep the number of requests down" but it sounded so strange that I said it's gotta be truth. That just blows my mind. A local radio station always has their Two-For Tuesday promotion or their 6 o'clock road block where they play either two songs or a block of songs from the same artist. Guess that won't be happening around here, at least by user request.

I miss the requests, because I'd get a set of songs queued up, and it would energize me when I was cleaning, or trying to make it through the last hour of work. But rules are rules! I'm not going anywhere, and if I want to hear those songs, I'll get the CDs.

^*))%$%% I hate that document ::mad ::mad
Ohh well, Wish I had time to protest it to Washingon, and build myself a nice solid case against it. It's wrong in so many ways. Intent is well, but it's overkill.
It will be a great Idea to have an all request hour
I think it will be a wondeful idea to have a pool where listener can put songs, and we all can vote them. The most voted ones will be played more often, or at some time...
Does the rating system has any use, or it's just to compare your preferences?

105th Congress 2nd Session - House of Representatives - Report 105-796
Digital Millennium Copyright Act - October 8, 1998, Page 88:
"Third, the definition of ??interactive service?? is amended to clarify that certain channels or programs are not considered interactive provided that they do not substantially consist of requested sound recordings that are performed within one hour of the request or at a designated time. Thus, a service that engaged in the typical broadcast programming practice of including selections requested by listeners would not be considered interactive, so long as the programming did not substantially consist of requests regularly performed within an hour of the request, or at a time that the transmitting entity informs the recipient it will be performed."
Again, we are just trying to play by the rules and do everything in our power to make Highlander Radio and CelticRadio.net be here for the long run. The DMCA clearly states that requests must be delayed an hour from the actual request. We are going to have a request queue with the estimated time your request will be added to the queue.
Also, there is no guarantee that your request will play. Especially after 5:30 or before 12 as we have a few times during the day that the queue is cleared. I would say most times it will, but just so you are aware.
I wasn't doubting you MacFive, honest. That just... just blows me away and I've cut a long rant out but I enjoy the station immensely, put my money where my mouth is and obviously don't want to see it go away so certainly keep it legal but I'm still just flabbergasted about that provision.

We appreciate all of your support. I just was thinking about it and thought I should actually read the law and then the thought I should post it just for any questions.
The problem with some of these laws is that it stifles creativity. America is losing so much of our tech force overseas and then we make laws that other countries don't have which put us at a further disadvantage.
But we will play by the rules and if anyone questions us we have the mojo to back us up!
I'm kinda bummed about this myself, but in the great scheme of things, I think it's great that you offer requests to begin with. I'm happy enough with one an hour if it means I can actually request something and have a say in what gets played, and heard by people around the world. It's almost like making a global difference.
I personally wish that there was not a time when request are turned off as I listen at night, after 10 pm Central time and basically as of now I cannot listen to anything I request. Plus, at 11 pm my time it goes to sleepy time music. I really don't listen as much as I used to because I can't request songs and I don't wish to be put to sleep. I liked it the way it was when I first signed on with requests at all times and if you wanted to listen to sleepy time music you could listen to celtic hearts channel. Sorry for the rant, but I just had to let my feelings out.
