*Laughs* I hope yae didnae take me wrong,I think yae were dead on with what yae said. I was agreeing with yae. When i was in Seattle i didnae meet one person with Scottish roots, but i met at least 30 with irish roots. The Irish presence in America is mush more pervasive.
I was nae implying ignorance on anyones part. I tend to be blunt, as any who know me will atest*laughs*
A Scottish bar in America, we'd have to bring our own beer.... biggrin.gif

Edinburgh Scotland.
*laughs* My local sayings are far , FAR too numerous to list.
I was attempting to show a lass( from the states) more about my culture and stumbled into this place. Any place that has more than 10 renditions of Scotland the Brave is alright by me

Being a Scotsman and working in a pub I can, perhaps, add something here...

Roisin-Teagan made one o me points for me*laughs*. Most Irish went to America for a new beginnning or to escape the political/religious hotbed that Ireland CAN be.
Most Scots being the miscreants wink.gif and mischivious sort we are were sent to the penal colony o' Australia by the english, leading to us calling the lads and lassies from down under our cousins and buying them a drink when we see them.
I was born in Stirling and raised in the highlands of Inverness and Skye, and resided in Glasgow and now in Edinburgh. Ive been to the States( Seattle and Ny), Paris, Austrailia, New Zealand, India, Norway, Japan and some others i canae remeber *laughs*. I can say without question( although some bias) that Scotland is the most beautiful country in the world. I was in Seattle for a year and a half going to college and tho' is was challenging and a new experiance, nae a day went by i didnae think of home. The first draught of air off the plane was sweeter than any ale or laeger, it brought tears to me eyes.... Simply put, it's hard to leave here if yae were born here...
Scotland , as a whole, tends to be more inclusive than Ireland and england. Many people have Irish roots, but many didnae realize thier Scottish ancestry until Rob Roy and the historically inaccurate( although moving) Braveheart. So being Scottish was nae " cool" as being Irish was. An example would be the "kiss me , Im Irish" buttons. I did make some Scottish buttons, once upon a time, but the rules o the forum forbid me from telling yae what they say*laughs*
It takes more than some Scottish roots, a lad in a kilt , and some dark ale to make an Scottish pub.....
The statement by Herrerano is very true*sighs*. I was asked all the time in the states if i was Irish. We have been "lumped " together, although id rather be bedmates with the Irish than the english anyday*laughs*. But i do think that people are coming around to realize that there are many differances between us.
If yae want a real Scottish pub, yaer best bet is to come here wink.gif
Sorry for the long post , but we've ne'er been acussed of being untalkative on a subject that intrests us*chuckles*
