I have been having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to pronounce 3 simple little words in Scottish Gaelic. I was hoping there may be someone out there that can help me sort through the many different conflicting rules for pronunciation that have me completely stumped. I would really appreciate the help. I would like to learn how to say: Laoch Treun Saoidh Thank you very much in advance Ron |

The best pronunciation guide you can get is http://www.akerbeltz.org/beagangaidhlig/gramar/grammar_pronunciationguide.htm. They also have MP3 files http://www.akerbeltz.org/fuaimean/fuaimean.htm. And an http://www.akerbeltz.org/beagangaidhlig/gramar/grammar_imitatedpron.htm So, I hope with that you can read this: On the inverted m: it's a vowel, pronounced in the same place as an u, but with unrounded lips. Say u (ooh in English Orthography) and grin. The L is very dark, the t is pronounced against the teeth. x is the final sound in loch. I don't know how to explain the e in English right now, but I' sure the sound exists in Scottish English. |
