Ok. So Clan MacDuff builds a castle on a rock in Northern Fife (Castle Creich). The group of them who stay there become known by said castle. And all is glorious for a few years until about the late 1400's to early 1500's scandal erupts and everyone is run out or forced to change their name. Then, in 1608, out of nowhere, here comes this Richard fellow, sailing out of Fife toward this new land called America. His line thrives in the hills of Appalacia, until 13 generations after him, one of Richard's decendants becomes interested in his dad's geneological work and starts wondering about this 100 year gap.

How did the Creich name weather the storm??? And what is the bloodline that connects Richard to the clerics who lived in Creich parish in 1500?

This is the question to which I seek an answer.

Perhaps by revealing the scandal the rest of us will make a connection with something in our history. That is a great starting place, as and ill wind does not die, it has a life of it's own. Many times to distance themselves from a scandal marriage was used and I know of cases where the male took the name of the wife either for more power or to hide from something really vile.
