This one is a clear statement: "Throw the stick!" She doesn't care that the "stick" is almost too big to pick up. If I can throw it, she will pick it up and bring it back. laugh.gif

Here is a picture of Murphy my 5 year old Border Collie.

This was taken on New Year's day, it was a balmy 60 degrees that day, of course its now 18 degrees and snowing today here in Maryland.

ebendigo, what a beautiful dog! I love that breed and have always wanted to get one but I hear they are very active and need a lot of territory to run around in. They are very intelligent dogs!

hey there ebendigo,

Just want to say what a nice looking dog Murphy is. He looks hot and tired. I had a border collie pup that had distemper when we got it and it died. I was so sad! Our neighbors have one, it never leaves the yard when they are out front. You see a lot of border collies out here as we are a ranch state.. Your right Rose they are very smart and very good dogs. If you can handle your Sheltie you can handle one of these. "Come on Rose get one" I know I am being naughty...LOL

Hey Mary! Did you see the AKC dog show the other night? I thought of you cause they had one your Sckiperkee (I can never spell that right) dogs in there. He was so very cute. He didn't win anything though, neither did the beautiful Sheltie. sad.gif

No I didn't see the dog show! Darn. My brother shows Belgian Sheepdogs. He has two and they are so pretty. They mind also. He does obedience classes also. I have been trying to put some pictures up but I am not having any luck. I am going to get a new computer soon may be that will help. Thanks for your help I tried it and they wouldn't upload the file was either too big or the url wasn't right something. May be when I get my new one I can show you the Sheltie pictures. She was a beauty in looks and heart.
The Sheltie and the Schipperke didn't win "because they weren't ours". laugh.gif

Yeah, Murphy is a typical BC, too smart for his own good. The picture I posted was Murphy on leash, but I usally don't have him on a leash, since he listens very well. I have some other pictures of him playing in the snow yesterday. Here is a picture of him trying to herd my son and I.

It's hard to see from the picture, but Murphy has a big red ball in his mouth. We learned early on that if we were going to play while he was in the yard it was a good idea to put something in his mouth. The ball in the mouth trick serves two purposes: 1. To keep him from barking too much, and 2 to prevent the nipping. We know that he doesn't mean any harm but it still hurts when he nips! :-) We had to teach the children in the neighborhood to just stop running if they didn't want Murphy chasing them! :-) He likes to try to keep order in the neighborhood, wandering kids or stray dogs he herds them all. In fact if another dog gets out of it's respective yard the owner will request Murphy's assistance.

That is really cool, ebendigo! My dogs are Shelties and they are natural herders too! They have a lot of energy, don't they?
