Just hoping when the vaccine is available for everyone and we can start to see people again. Seems like it is getting worse now they are recommending buying groceries online and not going to the supermarket as it is risky.

Has anyone tried the reforged version of WarCraft III? Finally had a little time to check it our after purchasing almost a year ago. Seems like they have worked out the bugs. Working my way through the original campaign.

Had a little problem with trying to get the game to run on the right monitor, but within the options there is a monitor selection. That must be new as most people did not have 2 monitors when the original of this game came out.

QUOTE (Aaediwen @ 25-Jun-2016, 07:31 AM)
As I recall, it was about 2003 when I first found CRN. Since I had my breakdown, the place I worked closed in 2012. So I went back to school to get a BS degree in Network Security & Electronics. I officially connected with and then married a lady I met on CRN, and I got several industry certs. These including Linux+, Net+, A+, and LPIC-1. I am also now working as a network admin and software developer at a small company here in Lexington, right along side the guy that got me started with Linux. Embedded work there has gotten be back to doing unique LFS builds and I am currently working to see how small of a system I can get to run. Right now, I'm at just shy of 120MB with about 8MB of RAM used while running an SSHD.

Congrats! Sounds like you have accomplished a lot! Degrees, certification and a wife! It's good to hear you are doing so well.

And it's good to hear you are using your Linux knowledge in your occupation.

Hope your family is well too!

Wonderful you have come back Aaediwen! I am glad that we are still around for you to come back to.

How long has it been since you first discovered CR? Time certainly goes by fast. We are fortunate that you taught us so many Linux tricks which we have used many times in administering the CR servers.

There seems to be a lot of dire financial warnings about this and already we have seen the stock market sink. I don't claim to be an expert on the topic, but I kept hearing about Corporations were not going to be making as much money now.

And when you have the President of the U.S. weighing in trying to get people to vote against it, you wonder if there is more to the story then meets the eye. And why should a sitting president of any country try to influence another countries vote?

Preserving ones countries culture is and important and noble cause. I love all of the countries of Europe and enjoy each ones unique culture and history. Creating one block and watering down the diversity to me seems like a step backwards.

I have read many articles on the EU and there is open arguments (not my own) about Germany losing the war but basically gaining control of all of Europe through this Union. There are also complaints of the Northern EU countries shouldering the biggest of financial share of the finances.

One of the reasons for the EU was to prevent WWIII. There were two major wars fought on their soil and some believe the EU would prevent a third.

Perhaps the peoples of Great Britain thought they were going to lose their identify.

And you are very right that Scotland could try for an independence vote again. But if you look at Ireland and see how poor that country is now and how most people immigrate to the U.S. - Scotland might want to rethink that decision.

A tremendous opportunity exists for the U.K. now, unite the countries of the Isle and forge strong political, social and financial agreements - put their past behind them - and that could make them a greater influence on World events and a major player in every corner of the world.

Fracture the Isles more and the culture of their peoples will eventually fade away...

It's amazing how these things turn out to be so true. Makes you really wonder if there is more to it and perhaps those ancient druids or Celtic peoples maybe had figured something out that is staring us blind in the eye.

Well here is my story. My wife and I are both Ash Tree. We actually have a beautiful Ash tree in our back yard. It's a little scary as the wood is so heavy and we do need to get it trimmed soon.

If you read about the Ash Tree you will find that it is related to the Ocean and to Waters. The Celts believed it originated from the deep seas, to the Greeks it was the sacred wood of the Sea God Poseidon.

So a few winters back a tremendous branch broke off during a winter storm and hit our pool with such force that it dented it 3 feet down which is a powerful force considering the metal of a pool and coming straight down. Water poured out of the pool surreal with the winter landscape. It was considered a freak winter storm, hard to hit and left a good foot of blue tinged snow.

Our small children stared in disbelief at their summer retreat destroyed in an instant and water flowing all over the yard.

It was not until the spring that we actually started to take down the pool to replace that we noticed the rivets at that the main seem were all rotted and the metal too brittle. The pool itself was not that old but yet if that Ash tree had not shed its wood, it is possible that the pool's seem may have come apart during the kids whirl pool antics and God knows what would have happened.

So our protector, our Ash tree stands tall and mighty in our yard looking after us day and night.....

Coming from New England we grew up with tales of the Ash Tree. Apparently King George had arrows placed on every Ash tree in New England to signify they were his to take and only his....well that is another story! biggrin.gif

It was almost too sunny here earlier but the cloud cover is coming in now. Should start snowing somewhere between 10 tonight and one tomorrow morning. Calling for 8-12 inches by tomorrow night. We'll see...

Oh brother more snow! Yes they are forecasting more snow for us too so that means no place to put the snow.

Doesn't look like it is going to be any warmth for a while, so I guess that means more and more snow.

Had to dig out a car last night and we had not place else to put the snow, so ended up putting it on a snow bank across the street from us!

It has been very exciting because everyone is talking about it. At work, on the news and in the family.

We are heading up to the New Hampshire Highland Games this weekend and it will be interesting to hear if there is any discussion.

Guess we will know in several hours, certainly by morning what the vote results in. Even if the vote for no wins, I think Scotland will gain politically and financially with more say in the UK government.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Scotland will vote not to leave the U.K.

In fact, I am still of the personal opinion that this break-up would be bad for Scotland, England and the U.K. What this will do for the financial markets is terrible and could send the markets in a tailspin.

But seriously, Scots and English have a shared history and shared families from cross border marriages. Take Princess Diana and her two sons who share Scottish and English history.

I think for us Americans we like to think of Scotland as in medieval times and what it was like in the romanticized versions of history. We've always been freedom loving people.

Scotland does not have the industry nor finances to make this successful. To be honest with you the political forces in Westminister should have never allowed this question on the ballot. Would us as Americans ever allow Texas or California or Alaska to become independent nations.

In the end if Scotland does vote to leave the U.K., then it is very possible this could be the end of the U.K. It would just cumulate the self-destruction of the Western Powers in Europe and create a vacuum that will some day be filled by those bigger nations that have bigger plans to extend their influence beyond their borders - mainly Russia and China....

In the course of human history, all empires eventually come to an end and what we might be witnessing is the final blow to that great and brutal empire called the United Kingdom...

Here is an open letter piece addressed "Dear Scotland." I think it addresses a lot of the same issues and concerns that Canada experienced with the Quebec Independence movement. Having been there during that time period, it was not even safe to be an English speaker in some parts.

While emotionally a free and independent Scotland seems like a wonderful thing, ripping apart the United Kingdom at its heart seems like it would put Scots at a disadvantage and diminished influence over the wrong term. As I have heard many people from England saying their "Grandmother" is from Scotland - it seems the two countries share more in common than not. 300 years is an awefully long time....

CODE

Dear Scotland,

You probably don’t know this, but you made us. The first European to cross the continent and reach our Pacific coast was Alexander Mackenzie – a Scot. Our first prime minister and chief Father of Confederation, Sir John A. Macdonald? Scottish. So too our second PM. Our country’s national dream, a railroad from sea to sea, was realized in 1885 when Sir Donald Smith, head of the Canadian Pacific Railway, drove The Last Spike at Craigellachie – a place named after a village in his homeland. The man who did the most to create Canada’s system of universal public health care, and chosen as “The Greatest Canadian” in a national survey of CBC viewers, was Tommy Douglas. He was born in Falkirk. The thistle and the red lion rampant on our national coat of arms identify you as one of our four founding nations; half of our provincial flags contain a Saint Andrew’s cross; and one of our provinces – Nova Scotia – is named after you. There are said to be more pipers and pipe bands in Canada than in Scotland. And nearly five million Canadians identify their ethnic origin as entirely or partly Scottish, which means we have almost as many Scottish-Canadians as you have people.

You made us – and as a gesture of thanks, we’d like to offer some advice on how to avoid unmaking yourself. This bit of history you are living right now? This referendum thing? We’ve already been through that. We may be a young nation but we have far more experience than you on this issue. We nearly tore our country apart. Twice.

Read the whole article, it is a very interesting take...

As we say in the States, United we stand - Divided we Fall...

Poll Poll: Summer Plans

Well, this summer for the MacArthur clan has taken a turn. We decided to do something very different and have purchased a small used travel camper. We have really enjoyed camping in the great North Woods of New England the past few summers, so I guess this is the next step!

Still I think we are in our heads up to the water, almost, but not drowning yet. A lot to learn about grey water, black water, and what exactly this chunky camper does that is now sitting in our back yard. We've had coffee in it, watched T.V. in it and explored the nooks and crannies.

With any luck we will be going in it to the Maine Highland Games for 3 days.

If anyone has advise on travel trailers please let me know - much appreciated. Perhaps in a few years we can start exploring this great country! Figured we needed to do something fun before ARRP starts sending us magazine offers! Of course, this might be a great way to finance a low budget retirement!! rolleyes.gif
