I listen to you all the time at home in the evenings. I loved listening during my conference period last year. Now, the school district's servers are blocking many programs :-( No more Celtic radio. I was trying to get my students to listen to soemthing OTHER than Brittany yuk Spears and the Backwards Boys.

It's gotten so that I listen to Celtic Radio from sun up til after midnight...I keep it on at my desk at work and sneak into my office at every possible moment I can get away..
The music helps me enjoy the day and the people on this network are great to talk to and their humor helps me get thru the days...
I love this station!!!

The first two or three days after I found this site, I would would leave when I wasn't on the Forum now I just leave it in the background what ever I am doing. Like several other folks, I'm not much of a TV watcher; Avalanche Hockey, some baseball and football (not a lot), and occasionally the History Channel. Otherwise I have always preferred radio because I can do other things while listening. TV is such a time waster. Love this music.

Posted by: Aaediwen 13-Oct-2003, 10:30 AM
I don't listen to much radio or watch TV anymore, Highlander Radio is the only station I can listen to atm, and here lately it's been on almost constantly when I've been home. Such a pity that they won't let us stream it at work. I broke the rules Saturday and hooked a pair of speakers to my hardware mp3 player at work, I had one person outright thank me, introduced some others to the genre, and then I think some others just silently enjoyed it. maybe I should dump some Celticradio to it and take it in that way =) Just a thought. note.gif

Posted by: McHaggis 16-Oct-2003, 08:52 PM
I found Highlander radio when I was searching for some Scottish fiddle or bagpipe tunes to include in a chart I was arranging. Now I check in at least once or twice a day to have a listen, read the forums and then leave it on while I post on other forums.

But have to turn it off when I work on other music projects.

I'd like to hear more music by Regimental Bands and the like, for homework purposes. There's nothing finer than listening to Scots rudimental drumming. I've been around percussion ensembles pretty much all my life and listening to the "Scotch Snap" (16th and dotted eighth) played on a real tight drumhead is still a real treat...so much different than your usual Frank Arsenault-type American rudiments.

Oh, and more ceildeh stuff.....I trip heavy on instrumental ensembles ala The Chieftans and others...Paddy Mahoney made me learn to play pennywhistle (I still have a copy of O'Neill's 101 Irish fiddle tunes, though it's pretty shopworn by now)and I suppose one of these days I'll learn the Irish harps like the late Derek Bell....weird things for a brass player to even consider....but then again, I play the didg, too. However, I suck as a fiddle player.

But of course, on HIGHLANDER RADIO, it's all good!

Until I figure out how to jump through all the hoops required by Live365, I won't be able to listen. What a joke that company is. It's hard to see how they stay in business. It's better than nothing, though (assuming I can figure out how to use it), and I do appreciate Paul's efforts to keep on streaming.

Posted by: Danann 17-Feb-2004, 11:58 AM
The only place I don't listen is in the car.

Mailagnas, What platform and all are you on? also, if you have a popup blocker, that could also cause it not to work. PM me, I might be able to help... after all, its part of my job description.

I got it working on my Win2000 and WinME desktops at work and home, but am still trying to figure out how to get it to work on my Ipaq 2215, with WiFi, which is what I usually use at home, so I'm not tied to the computer when listening. I've seen a couple of posts indicating that others have gotten it to work, but haven't been able to figure out how they did it.

I work at my home computer throughout the day and night at research or data entry, so I listen when ever i am at my desk. much easier than the stacks of scottish/irish/celtic cd's that used to clutter the bare spots on my desk. Keeps me going strong without the excuse of having to change cd's too.. which i suppose is a good thing.

With DSL at work, I bought myself a Creative Labs surround sound system... I listen pretty much from 9am till 5pm (or later). I can mute it from the keyboard when I answer the phone - what a pleasant sound-track for the day! (I leave the website up all the time, too, so I can see what's coming up - I miss the iTunes scroll that showed the current song...)

I listen all the time, too, until a summer storm blows thru and I get knocked offline. I esp. like the music late at night. So, I keep my Celtic cd's in my car since I can't listen to CR while I'm away from my computer.

As a graphic artist who works from home, discovering this radio station has really improved my day. This site is truly amazing! Being able to request music is great. It's a good way to discover new artists. I'm also fiddle playe and this station usually gets me inspired to play once work is done. (Or sometimes before it is done).

I listen to Highlander Radio every morning before I go to school, and every evening when it's my turn on the computer. Speaking of which, does anyone know if there's a Celtic radio station on the real radio? Because my dad's getting sick of me hogging the computer, and he says his ears are about to fall off in true Celtic fashion ????? if I don't give him a break from the music. Not happening (the break, I mean) but it's kind of frustrating when I have to go away from the computer, and can't listen to Celtic music for more than 4 hours or so. I start to suffer from post-withdrawal symptoms and such. walkman.gif unsure.gif sad.gif

Ok, I'll answer my own poll 2 years later.

I'll admit, sometimes I am busy working to keep up with the mounting paperwork, or taking a break with my now 7 year old daughter to do a little coloring (she has conveniently setup shop with a board on a radiator right next to my desk). I may not have the music on all of the time - listening to new music, figuring out what tracks should go where and sometimes I will throw on some "other" type of music to fancy my kids and my deep musical interests.

At times, I have felt a little unmotivated to get it in gear to work on the site. I don't know what song to play next and I really don't want to think what to play. So I throw on Highlander Radio and suddenly I feel motivated again. My hands start typing, my brain starts thinking and suddeningly I am in a different place. All things are possible thanks to these great musician's words and songs.

So to answer the question in my typically long winded response - I listen to Highlander Radio when I am working on Highlander Radio! biggrin.gif

I have to admit this, now don't hate me, but I rarely if ever listen at all anymore. Reason being I am not allowed to listen at work and with dial-up at home (plus a teenager doing IM and Myspace stuff) it's just not worth it (the dial-up I mean, not Highlander Radio!).
I wish I could listen, but it is not to be.

Posted by: gwenlee 02-Feb-2007, 06:43 PM
Actually I listen to Highlander radio at varies time. I put morning because when I am off I turn it on while cleaning the house. I wish I could listen at work but at a hospital we are not allowed. I have listened to the station while in my car. We took the portable lap top and plugged in. It was wonderful.

Unfortunately due to a series of surgeries I've been home for the last 11 months. Finding this site and Highlander Radio has been a Godsend. I turn it on in the morning and off at night. Good speakers have made the computer my stereo. I need someone (younger evidently) to help me wireless this to other rooms.
