There is a lot that separates Celtic Music from other genres. One big component certainly is the instruments. Such a variety and unique sounds!! Just thought a poll would be fun........or not. However, which one is your favorite? Here are some that are generally considered the main ones and considered "celtic". I'm sure there are many more and they break down into more specific types. (Poll limited to 10 choices) Feel free to add. Favorite (if you can) and why should be interesting. I know the combination of them makes pure magic but is there one that stands out from the rest for you??
This was tough to decide, I do enjoy all of these instruments a lot. I find the flute to be very soothing, the bagpipes unique, and the bodhran primal, like a heartbeat for the music. Again, they are all great instruments
Darn, I hit the wrong button too. I voted for bagpipes but hit the "see results" button. Anyway, for me, after bagpipes it's the Uileann pipes and then the fiddle. I play the bodhran and tin whistle only because I can't afford the others and there are no teachers up here were I live.

Hey Togo, what a great topic! But how dare you make us think so hard!!
I agree that all the instrument listed are what make Celtic Music unique and wonderful. If I get pushed into a corner as far as a favorite, I'd have to say the Tin Whistle. there is something enchanting and absolutely joyful to hear one played and played well. To hear someone like Joanie Madden or Mary Bergen or Kevin Crawford play takes me to Ireland. Just love it.
The bouzouki, though historically a Greek instrument, is also a true staple of Celtic music. Aaron Jones of the Old Blind Dogs is a fine player and really can make that instrument sing!
Great topic and poll! Thanks for letting us all share in it!

I accidently hit "see poll results" too by mistake so I coudln't even vote in my own poll! It IS a very difficult choice. There is nothing like bagpipes. I was at my nephew's graduation from the police academy last week and they were led out with a bagpiper piping. Stirring! Love the tin whistle sound! And the fiddle seems to always make a music piece so separate from others. However for some reason I am gravitating toward the bodhran. That thumping somehow always gets the feet a stomping and hands a clapping!
