Celtic Radio Community > Technical Support > Modem Vs. Broadband Streams

Posted by: ronboze 12-Jun-2003, 05:49 PM
I read elsewhere about there being fewer broadband streams available than modem streams. I'm pretty new, but I'm guessing it is probably a money issue as evidenced by the post I cam across thanking listeners for their contributions. What would it take to increase the number of possible broadband streams?

Thanks.

Yeah, our hands are pretty much tied as far as the broadband stream goes. And I am reluctant to have another fund raising effort as we accomplished our goals in saving the modem stream and would not want to think Highlander Radio is only about fund raising! lol

Really, in order for us to increase our streams we will have to develop a good business model to pay for the streams. We have been around for 2 years now and we are just getting serious about the broadcast and site. It might take another 2 years to fully develop the site.

Where ever we are headed though we will be guided by our listeners suggestions and opinions. And the streams will be free as long as I am at the controls! rolleyes.gif

I stumbled across the site for the first time perhaps 6 months ago on a whim, while looking for Celtic music on Live365. At the time, I thought, "This is pretty cool," but only listened infrequently. About a month or two ago, I began tuning it in increasingly more frequently, listening over the DSL in my office, sometimes all day.

I have found the playlist to be an incredible relief from the other stuff I've listened to, to get me through the day. And I think I might even appreciate it even more while websurfing in the evening.

I appreciate your desire to keep it free. There is much that could be said about that, but this is not the time. I am guessing that the community of listeners you might attract is relatively small, but it is also probably more inclined to supporting a good thing like this than folks who listen to some other genrés. Whereas I would have no desire at all to pay to subscribe to "premium" service with someone like Live365 or Real, what you've got going here is "pretty cool", and I'd like to have it more consistently available on broadband.

Thanks for what you're doing.
