Celtic Radio Community > Introductions > Looking For Pen Friends

Posted by: Macfive 05-Apr-2005, 09:55 PM
If you are looking to correspond with a Pen Friend, then post your details here and perhaps you might be fortunate to find a friend across the seas, across North America or across town for that matter!

For all the internet is worth, it is by far better to have a friend then no friends at all.

Stefan

smile.gif Saw an oppertunity to practice some German. I don't often post in a language other than English. Just on occasion. Best Wishes smile.gif

There's only a couple slight changes in this post to be mentioned.

"If I make mistakes, then tell me what's wrong."

The German <--> English translation between 'Say' and 'Tell' is often not as clear as one might wish. One has to read the context to get it right, as is the case between any languages smile.gif

And although your use of the term 'speech' here fits well enough to get the message across, 'language' would be more accurate. smile.gif

I don't think you'll have any problems though, no errors that wouldn't be expected. smile.gif
Honestly, I rather admire people learning English as a second language. I've studied 3-4 other languages to various degrees, and so far, English has got to be the most backwards language I've seen.

Have fun here. If you have any questions, feel free to send a PM

Hello to all,

I found this wonderful site and thought to say hello to all in the community. I am
new to the celtic radio community and so far I am enjoying what I see and hear.
I have enjoyed Irish and Scottish music as a boy growing up and my favorite music
to listen to is the Scottish Highland Pipes. When I am working, I prefer to listen to
the softer celtic music. If you would like a pen pal, please drop me a line at
[email protected] and lets chat.

Irish/Scott comes from my mothers side of the family. thumbsup.gif laugh.gif tongue.gif

My wife and I both have a wee bit of Native blood (wife-Choctaw; Me-Cherokee), but we're pretty much classified as Anglos here on the Rez.

Glad you felt a warm welcome. Hope to see you around often!

I have enjoyed Irish and Scottish music as a boy growing up and my favorite music
to listen to is the Scottish Highland Pipes. When I am working, I prefer to listen to
the softer celtic music.

Hello and welcome LVIrishScottsman!

We're very glad that you enjoy the site - we're happy to add you to our family! I, like you, like pipe music too, but I sort of get carried away if I'm at work and have a tendency to think about the music and not my work, so Celtic music with nature sounds are my preference when I need to concentrate. smile.gif

Have fun wandering around your new Internet home and please be sure to visit our other forums. Any questions, just ask - someone will always be willing to help!

I look forward to reading your future posts!

You'll have to tell us about your homeland. How in the world did you find us here? I've been around for a couple of years but haven't really started posting until just recently. I like the sense of comraderie we have here.

Hope you enjoy being part of the family.

Hello and welcome Judith (a.k.a. sayhellotospike)!

I'm very glad you found us! We have the best Celtic music, from rock to traditional, not to mention interesting forums (more about that...) and the nicest people you can meet on the Internet!! wink.gif

To try to answer your question, concerning your interest in looking up info on clans, I went to the Celtic Radio homepage and typed "clans" and hit enter and I got lots of hyperlinks - here's the URL for the query:

http://www.celticradio.net/php/search_index.php - you'll probably have to do the same thing, but you get the idea - you can search just about every forum you go to, which is a pretty nice thing!

Anyway, I hope you find what you're interested in and please take time to roam around our forums! I look forward to getting to know you and reading your future posts!

All the best - have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Judith!

I couldn't be happier that you've been both listening to great Celtic music as well as visiting the different forums and chatting with folks - those two things are the nicest reason to be here - and another good thing is, you're part of our family now too! smile.gif

If you ever have questions concerning anything on the site, please don't hesitate to post them - on any forum, someone is sure to respond back.

I hope you're ready to enjoy a very happy weekend - stay warm (I'm guessing that Budapest is rather cold and snowy now...) and have fun "surfing" Celtic Radio!

As a thought, I have been told that Budapest is very beautiful - not wanting to be pushy, but if you ever had any pictures of the city you would like to post in "Introductions", I'm sure that everyone here would love to see them!

All the best! bye1.gif

Welcome, welcome! I have to admit that I didn't have my glasses on when I read valpal's post and I thought it said "Celtic Chokie" and I wondered if that had something to do with choking people or wearing chokers. Man, I need to wear these darned things all the time.

Aside from that silliness, you'll note that we are definitely a serious bunch around here. (was that a bolt of lightning?)

Okay, I admit it, I like hanging out here because we are lots of fun and silliness is rather like the soup of the day - what will today's flavour be?

Thanks everyone.

I'm a bit unsure of the music -- is the only way to continu listening to subscribe? I'm not opposed to paying, but my mom likes it and she's not someone with extra cash jingling in her purse and she only deals with free things.

I can't wait to dive into the genaeology part.

Peace

Christian

I used to be a subscriber to live365 but I had to drop that this year due to ye olde pocketbook tightening. So I still listen to the station on live365 but now I have to click on the "continue listening for free" button every so often. It's a minor nuisance but I have learned to live with it. So, yes, it's free but with its annoyances.

Posted by: Muircheartach 16-Jan-2008, 08:37 PM
Hi Christian,

Just chiming in on the Live365 thread - I'm not sure what browser you use to view Celtic Radio, but I like Portable Apps (http://portableapps.com/) and use a number of them on a thumb drive - I use Firefox Portable on it. I also use VLC Media Player Portable to play Celtic radio and never have to click anything to continue to play. There might even be a free VLC Media Player that is a regular app (non-portable).

BTW - I see that you go to Virginia Tech, where my brother-in-law went back in the early '80's. It's a great place and my wife and I had lots of fun visiting him when he went there - not to mention one of the best places for fried chicken - Original Recipe. Yummy! yes.gif

Anyway, all the portable apps are a free download, so even if you don't have a memory stick/thumb drive, you can still load them on your PC - they might even have a version for a Mac, if you use one...

Have a great week!

I am in Lee's Summit, MO which is a suburb of Kansas City Missouri. I have an Irish Shop in the downtown area and just love it. Our community is perfect - the right size and atmosphere. If you're ever in town stop by.

I know that this is a great community too. I love everything Celtic - everything Irish.

I love Ireland. I went in 2005 and just couldn't get enough...some day I will.

Well thass enough of an intro. I'll be talking to you soon enough!

We're glad that you found us and hope you'll like being part of the Celtic Radio family! There's always something to see and do, so take your time and wander around - we have many forums!

As someone who grew up in KCMO (Country Club Plaza), I have been to Lee's Summit many times, albeit, not for many, many years, so I'm guessing that a lot has changed! wink.gif I hope you're having a mild winter and enjoying it - since the weather there was the only thing I knew, I always had a blast in winter. Being in Northern California for nearly 20 years has, however, made both my wife and I confirmed weather wimps, and proud of it! rolleyes.gif

Have a great weekend - we look forward to reading your future posts!

Hi Chuck - here's a warm welcome from cold Georgia.

Do you have a website for your store? I would like to check out what you have there. I know we have a british shop in a neighbouring town but I don't know if there is an Irish one anywhere around me. I'll have to ask the other Georgia gals on the forums to see if they know of one.

I think you'll like it here. It's sort of like a big ol' family!

Take care and stay warm. Do you have any snow where you are? Today it's snowing in the Atlanta area!

Actually I do not go to VT now. I graduated in 1989, worked there 1998-2000 and will always have my heart in Blacksburg -- once a Hokie, always a Hokie -- but I am no longer a student.

Do you remember where you got this fabulous chicken? There was a good family-owned steak place where they paid you to eat the chicken breast filets. That seems odd, but if you wanted the salad bar, ordering it as a meal was $4.49, but if you ordered the chicken it was $3.99 and the salad bar came with it.

Hmm. Guess I'll go ahead and have the chicken.

Posted by: gcw57 21-Jan-2008, 03:25 AM
biggrin.gif Chicken sounds great to me, too! That's funny that you have to pay a dollar more to get less food. Why, oh why, can't there be a place like that around here?

Greetings from the sorta far North of BC in Canada! It's -17c and the cat doesn't like to get hugged. The snow is piled up all over the wee town we live right close to and I'm still learning how to walk with two new knees. I like Ireland, sunshine, beaches, travel and fun people. I dislike freezing in the ice and snow, Vista and liver! Hmm, time for my medication, me thinks!

I'd like to add my wishes of welcome you and Chuck! We are indeed an eclectic group of people dedicated to the pursuit of 'eat, drink & be merry'! If it's goofing around you're after the Jester's Court is always a fun place to go - just be careful if you decide to take the "test". wacko.gif There are also many venues for more intellectual discussions of the issues of our group. I'm afraid I am not able to direct you to a good, serious conversation thread - they won't tell me where they are! clown2.gif

Chuck, if you have a website for your Irish shop, I'd very much like to browse your wares too!

Welcome Christian to the group! Welcome Chuck to the founders club! I'm good for pint if you visit my neighbourhood. Just, please, come one at a time! laugh.gif

Posted by: CelticHokie 21-Jan-2008, 03:47 PM
I you don't like ice and cold, what are you doing in northern BC?

Of course, it's not like it's warm here -- a balmy 25 F.

I always wanted to visit Australia, some days more than others. This is one of those days.

"Do you remember where you got this fabulous chicken? There was a good family-owned steak place..."

Hi Christian,

Sorry to be getting back to you so late, but work called (it's still calling, I just turned down the volume...). The place was called Original Recipe and it was on the north-east side of campus, I think - at least it was close enough to walk. Their fried chicken was heavenly! angel_not.gif Unfortunately, I do not know of the place that you mentioned - I know for a certain fact that Original Recipe did not serve steak, but if they did I'm sure it would have been chicken-fried. tongue.gif

Have a good week!

Hi Eren!

When I go back to work tomorrow I'll see if I can find my photos of Scotland. My company has a site in Aberdeen, on the east coast.

Here's a picture I have at home - in or around Aberdeenshire.

I love the area - it's by the sea and since my company builds boats, it's wonderful to stay there. If you ever get to go there, you can plan a nice day trip from east to west coast - there's a lot to see and the last time I was there I went to Fort William, to Oban and then to Edinburgh, before going back to Aberdeen. We have people in my company who live there year-round, but most people who work in engineering take turns or rotations for a month or so there. It's a rough life! wink.gif

Now for your city, you have a beautiful picture and I can hardly wait to see more - it is very nice of you to share!

I hope you have lots of other people who send you nice pictures! Have a great week!

Hi Muircheartach and Eren,

The castle in this picture is Eilan Donan Castle and it is not in Aberdeen but in the Highlands and is a McRae holding and if my memory serve me well I think it still is.
It was in ruins for almost 200 years and restore in the beginning of the 20th century. It's a beautiful place and that is where the movie Highlander was filmed.

Thanks for sharing.LOA

Thanks! I tried to place more photos on my homepage, but I was "homepage-challenged" and had to load them up to the General Photo Post location.

If you have a chance (and I know you're busy with school), please go to the site photo post and look at what's there. And BTW - there are very beautiful photos online from all the Celtic Radio members!! You'll not be sorry you browsed all 100 pages! tongue.gif

Hello one and all!

What am I doing in Northern BC, CelticHokie? You cannot begin to imagine how many times I have asked myself that question! To keep it short, let's just say a series of complications and situations have left me abondoned in the land of ice and snow. In fact, we will have our first snow fall of the year in the next 6 weeks maximum! Yeesh! Of course today we have sunny skies and +24c weather. Things change very quickly around here.

As I am starting to learn how to get pictures from my camera to my computer, I hope to soon be able to figure out how to post them here. We get some truly remarkable sunsets in the Cariboo!

Salutations!

I'm from the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the 1st Kentuckian to place his locator pin on the Member Map under Community Forum. Surely there must be more Kentuckians on CelticRadio! Sound off!

As a new member my handle is englishmix. That's because my father is a British citizen with his clan and my mother is a hillbillee from Alabama, and I prefer Scotland. So I'm kind of a mixed up Englishman at heart...

Hi I'm from Michigan. A twitter friend posted a link to the Celtic Radio Music Awards and I had to vote so of course I signed up so I could vote. I use to think the only part of me that was Irish was my name but now its more than that much more. My love of all things Celtic began with Riverdance which moved into Lord of the Dance. I use to be a regular listener of the radio show Thistle and Shamrock until my local NPR station removed it from their line up. Currently I am a big supporter of Celtic Thunder, George Donaldson, Ryan Kelly, Neil Byrne, Damian McGinty, Keith Harkin, Emmet Cahill, Pale Blue Jak, and the Killkenny's. I've not yet gone to Ireland but that number one on my bucket list. I'm really hoping to go by mid summer of 2013.

Posted by: heartsong 31-Jan-2012, 08:57 AM
Welcome CelticSweetie, Celtic Thunder seems to be sending lots of people to this site. They are amazing that way.

I went to Ireland, Scotland and Wales for a 2 weeks in 2009, and I'm dying to go back. I'd love to spend more time in each place. Hopefully you're able to get there.

I know what you mean! I'm in Kalamazoo, and Michigan is usually covered in snow and ice at this time of year. We've switched from 40 degrees (f) to -4 in the last two weeks alone with snow one day and sun the next! The changing weather is typical Michigan, but it has lasted an ucommonly long time this season.

I've lived in Minnesota for over 50 years and have never seen such a wimpy winter before! But I'll take it - I hate winter anyway! In another 50 years, I suppose we'll be having a green Christmas in shorts at the beach!

Hi Everyone,
My name is Kelli. Im from the USA. I have always loved the Irish music especially Celtic music. I have found Ireland to be the most wonder place in the world. Though I haven't been there in person yet. I have had friends go and tell me that the people there are just amazing and friendly. I have also met a few that where here in the State. It doesn't hurt that they have a really cool accent. I have been trying to study Gaelic for the last three years but I haven't gotten very far. It is a very hard language to learn.

Anyway back to the form topic. I am looking for email buddies because sending actual mail is getting to expensive. If you want to email me at [email protected] that would be great. I hope you all enjoy your lives. I hope to hear from you all soon.

Thanks,
Kelli

Hi Rosiedosie. Welcome!

I hear what you're saying about learning Gaelic. I tried learning Scottish Gaelic - found out I'd make a great deaf-mute....

The accents are fun too, aren't they? I enjoy an Irish accent, but I had Scottish accents in my family, so I have to favor that accent just a wee bit o'r t'othr.

Again, welcome and happy listening!

Oh, I am so glad to know I'm not the only one who feels like this. When I go to Ireland I'm just going to smile a lot & keep my mouth shut! I do love that accent.

Hey from the fair weather Texas! I just started on the site and already in love with it. Of course was led here like many others through Celtic Thunder. I've been trying to learn Irish Gaelic for around four months. It is not going well. I'm planning a study abroad trip to either Dublin or Galway. Not entirely sure where yet but those are the two I favor most.

Hope to hear from you guys soon smile.gif
