Somehow I thought that the ladies would agree with me....and yes, in my case, the flowers are orchid plants. I may not be the sharpest pencil in the drawer, but I am well trained and obedient.

Some men are drawn to oceans, they cannot breathe unless the air is scented with a salty mist. Others are drawn to land that is flat, and the air is sullen and is leaden as August. My people were drawn to mountains- Earl Hamner Jr.
Hmm... Don't think proper is the word for Elspeth's voice... maybe cultured and refined?
Now, where is my tea...
I am finding this hysterical to read how others perceive my voice from my words. But I understand. A friend describes my writing style as elegant and brooding.
However, that isn't how I speak.
I am one generation out of the hills of Pennsylvania. Though suburban Ohio removes any accents, family makes sure you don't get above your rasin'. (or eat a buggy raisin depending upon who is hearing the lyrics) Sorry, I digress.
Here is a description of my voice. It is low, rarely shrill, slightly lyrical as I am a singer, but my speaking voice is a bit too nasal for my liking- something that is exasperated by living with a smoker. Hear Karen Carpenter with a slight head cold. And my laugh is loud and boisterous. Something that has rang out often today reading the camaraderie in these posts. Dang, I do sound cultured, don?t I. What a hoot!

Compassion is the sometimes fatal capacity for feeling what it is like inside somebody else's skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too. - Frederick Buechner
If society prospers at the expense of the intangibles, how can it be called progress?
Oh Sister E, YOU are a hoot! You have a pretty voice. And let me tell you folks she had the power to inflict pain on me. She's not prim and proper. She's a very talented and well educated writer who's a lady that puts up with an older bar sliding sister.
You are always so hard on yourself. I think you are the best sister I could have. And she has a great voice.
