I am trying to find a location geographically to accomadate everyone. If you are truely interested in attending, please post your User name here and the city you live in so we can figure out a location to accommadate the most people. This will help also in finding out who is interested in attending so we can consider the most central location for everyone.
Thank you,

oldraven, otherwise known as Adam.

Currently Edmonton, Alberta, but may very well be, (and I hope), Halifax, Nova Scotia by the time this all comes about. Actually, just count me as Halifax. The farther east, the better, in my opinion.

Liriel, Northcentral Pennsylvania...

My parents have a place for a reunion if needed. 208 acres in the Applachain Mountains.

30 acre lake 2 cabins can sleep about 8 in one, 12 in the other, also lots of room to camp with tents or RVs.

Close to stores and theatre, also have several festivals during the summer months, road rallies and rattlesnake round up.

That is extremely sound advice OldRaven! I'm ready to come up your way anyhoo! It's already getting too warm down here. We were in the pool Monday and 85, today it's 48. Go figure!

Yeah, same here. Last week it was beautiful and sunny. We actually got above 20 (68). All the snow was gone, and the grass was getting green. Now it's been snowing for three days and todays high will be -1 (30). This blasted arctic low has moved down to the border and is going south east from there. We should be back into the double digits again on saturday though, thanks to the west coast tossing some hot air at us.

I can't help but think that having it in Nova Scotia would be the next best thing to crossing the Atlantic, but I'm not holding my breath. It's quite a bit out of the way. But I got dibs on the next one. laugh.gif

I vote for Old Raven's suggestion; Nova Scotia
Somehow I think that would be appropreate, at least for the first one.

Posted by: Liriel Baenre Do'Urden 17-Apr-2004, 08:14 AM
I vote for Nova Scotia too. As long as their are campgrounds. My husband and I love to camp and it would be great to be able to bring the kids and dogs.

Posted by: oldraven 17-Apr-2004, 08:48 AM
http://www.stanfest.com/ usually takes place on the Canada Day weekend. July 1st. This should be a good year, as Canso is celebrating its 400th birthday. (Yup, 1604) But, we're not talking this year, so that doesn't really matter.

Yes, there is camping galore. Remember, New Scotland's nothing but hills and forest, so campgrounds are everywhere. I wouldn't recomend to anyone thinking of going to Stanfest someday that you use on-site camping. It's just a field on the hill to pitch a tent on. If you don't mind a 15min walk along the shore and through the old town, you should check out one campground just up the road. It's completely off to the side, fairly quiet, and it's all the way in the woods. Walk across the old dirt road, and you're on the shore. This is where Ange, Ivy and I stayed when we went back in......... '01? unsure.gif

Another thing you all might find interesting is the http://www.antigonishhighlandgames.com/, which is in its 141st year. If we do, I'll talk to my parents about turning the field, or some other part of the farm, into a private campground for a few days. I'm sure they'd love the idea. rolleyes.gif (I think you'd like to see the University as well. It's quite a sight)

This place is all tourism, so if you want me to keep snooping, just say so. smile.gif Stanfest is sort of a multi-cultural folk festival, and not all that much about Celtic music, though it is represented there. There's always the http://www.nstattoo.ca/. And if you're into the war stuff, there are so many old English and French forts in the region, you wouldn't know where to start. I'd sugest the Halifax Citadel, because then you would be able to walk down the hill to the historic waterfront where all the old docks are still standing, (and being used), and the old buildings as well. Including the Keith's brewery. sly.gif

Look, I could go on forever, so I'm just going to leave all that out there.

(shouldn't I be getting paid by some government agency for all this advertising? laugh.gif )

Ah, Shrule, you are from the Northwest area of Jersey? Beautiful area, especialy around the Water Gap and High Point. I declare the area north of Flemington 'Eagandom,' and offer you the support of my army. Caution, Teterboro and Bayonne are going to be your worst enemy, so Good luck.

I am working on the Pot hole situation. My plan to fill the holes with politicians didn't work so good. People kept driving into them.

Annabell, *bows* thanks for your support! Every new country needs a pretty Lady to fight for.

Eamon, we like the occasional city slicker to come up here and amuse us. They like to stop along the roadside with the farm animals and have their picture taken with them. biggrin.gif Their biggest problem is, they don't know the difference between a cow and a bull and most end up in the hospital. wallbash.gif

I would not mind going to Nova Scotia for a get together at all. The country side is beautiful from what I've seen Oldraven has posted.
But the first one to start this thing really needss to be where we can get the most peopl together at one time to have a great start and get everyone else interested in coming to the next one...

OK, I can understand the centralization thing.
It seems to me, from what I've seen, the majority seems to be around the east coast.

Might I suggest somewhere in Missouri then, since there are a few of us that are west of the Mississippi.

I have no idea whats there, but it does seem fairly central.

Also, might I suggest that if we're going to try to have this around some kind of gathering, how about a Renn Faire or Celtic Festival. That way no one can say we're being bias, rather than a Highland Games.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Posted by: Annabelle 21-Apr-2004, 09:36 AM
Absolutely right OR! I hope I'll be up for the second one, have cane will travel! haha

I'l not saying any one is, but..........

we don't want any feelers hurt, we want an all out happy Celtic PARTY!!!!!

Posted by: Annabelle 21-Apr-2004, 12:49 PM
That's the reason it would be nice if we go for getting the most people together that we can. it seem's to be around the OHio to Pennsylvania area.
A bunch of party animals here on the east coast.
No we don't want anyone upset or feel left out! That's why we are trying to get everyone to sign up on this thread who's interested. That way everyone is considered. The final decission of locations will be voted on by everyone who is interested. That's really the only fair way to handle it.
Me being in the south is way off the beaten path and I know it. So I don't mind traveling to another location.
When everyone's tired of being frozen up north we will have one down here in the South so ya'll can thaw out! But dat day ain't here yet.

Mike! You are too funny! Out of all the beers, I must prefer Killians. So will have to have plenty of that for the both of us.

Hubby and I have taken many train trips. In fact, in July we are taking a train trip up to the Grand Canyon. We did this two years ago and loved it. This time we are taking his uncle with us and we should have a blast!

I would love to ride that train in Durango, Colorado! My hubby was a train engineer and worked on the railroad for many years, so we tend to love train rides.

I hope we can do that in Scotland too!

Thanks Annabelle for your kind comment. I try to treat people how I would want to be treated. smile.gif

not picky at all.
If I even thought I could get everyone down here I have 10 acre's surrounded by woods and we could have all kind of celtic activities like.....toss the taber, javlin throwing, pin the tail on the peckery! I'm also going to the Celtic Fling this weekend at the Renfaire grounds, not to far from you. We need some help on that one, especially, someone local who may know where all the campgrounds are in the area. Let me know.
