Hey Gang!

Our children and extended family gave us the biggest Christmas surprise ever! They bought the wife and I a trip to Ireland in March. Totally blew us away! For me, unexpected and undeserved, but I'll take it!!

We had a wonderful trip to China last April to visit family, but having family there made things easier for us. Ireland is a different story, even though we have good friends living in Cork that we will go and see. This is new territory for us.

I'm open to any advice those of you who have visited Erin can give. Here are some basics of our trip.

We will be flying into the Shannon. The first couple of days or so we plan to spend in the Doolin area around the Cliffs of Moher. We will be renting a car, hoping not to kill anyone

! We do not drink alcohol, so I am not sure that visiting a pub for grub is a good idea or not.

Basically, things to see, out of the way or off the beaten path things you have found interesting, anything! We are open to your thoughts!

BTW, we finally have a family and ministry website. Stop by and take a look. Try and figure out how an ugly man can have such beautiful sons and daughters!! (The beautiful wife sure helps!!)

What a wonderful gift!

I hiked around Ireland for 6 weeks, it is a stunning country and the people are truly amazing.

Might I suggest a trip to the Aran Islands? A tour of the Ring of Kerry? Maybe a bit cliche, but well worth the trip.

As for the larger towns, I'd say Cork was my favourite, but Galway has it's charms.

I've been to Ireland for the first time about 7 months ago - a 10-day tour starting in Dublin, then south to Kilkenny, west to Cork, on to Killarney, then north to Tralee, Cliffs of Moher, Galway.
From Galway, we took a trip to the Arran Isles, to Dun Aengus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dun_Aengus), which I would suggest you visit, if you have the opportunity - highly impressive!.
After that, north-east to Sligo, and then back to Dublin. Around Dublin, we also visited Newgrange(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newgrange), which is also really worthwhile.
We really got a good impression of the variation Ireland has to offer.

Thanks for the help. We are definitely planning a trip to the Arans, weather permitting. One of the ferries at Doolin will be operating at that time. Ring of Kerry and Newgrange are also on the list.

I've been told that the Dingle Peninsula is also outstanding. We hope to make that loop while we are there.

Wow Haynes what a great gift! I hope you enjoy your trip. How fun. I hope you will get lots of photos no matter what you end up doing. That's just a excellent gift.

Believe me, you'll get ample opertunity to take great pictures. I'm an avid photographer myself, so took quite some pictures during my 10-day holiday in Ireland. If I'd been using a DSLR instead of an analogue SLR (yes, I was still using film then), the amount of pictures would have been a lot higher (I've taken around 350 pictures now)
