Hi,

I'm new in these forums. I'm Siusaidh (pseudonym), a 55 y/o woman in Upstate NY, a pagan Sagittarius. I discovered Celtic music about the same time as I met my biological mother and discovered that 99.9% of my maternal ancestry is British, Scottish, & Irish. I since created a family tree and discovered my 4x great-grandmother Hassett & family arrived in the US on March 26, 1849 after leaving Dublin during An Gorta Mort, the Great Famine. I discovered my 4x great-grandfather Johnson in Sussex, UK. And my Scottish McConnell ancestors in Berwick-on-Tweed, Stoddard ancestors who were British-Scottish, and Battersby- were they Irish or Scottish or British - or a combination?

I discovered I like Celtic music more than any other kind of music. I've been playing Mountain Dulcimer about a year and enjoy it very much. Glastonbury is on my bucket list. And the hills and lakes of the Finger Lakes tug at my heartstrings in such a way that I'm wondering if this has anything to do with a resemblance to the Scottish Highlands?

Nice to meet y'all. Blessed be! [FONT=Arial]

Welcome to Celtic Radio Siusaidh. It looks like you have found out a lot of info about your heritage, much more than I've been able to find out about mine.

Welcome from Florida, I'm very impressed with how much you have dicovered about your family. After coming to the states, one of my Irish Grandmothers married a Swede whose family was originally from Germany. An Irish Greatgrandmother, born in the states, married a man from a German family. Everyone else was from Ireland. While living in Connecticut I discover I had a real knack for building stone walls & I have always collected rocks from everywhere I travel. Another thing connecting me to my ancestors is gardening. Many of the men were employed as gardeners & I am a Master Gardener. I think I inheirited these abilities right along with my cleft chin!
