I had asked a company rep about the Rosetta Stone language series doing a set of CD's on Irish gaelic (They already have Welsh). This was about a year ago and it appears there are enough people asking ofr it. I recieved an email today that they have several levels to work from. I've had no experience with these language study courses. Has anybody here tried any of them and how good are they? The link is here http://www.rosettastone.com/personal/languages/irish |

I have the Danish Rosetta Stone. It is pretty good. I lived in Denmark last year and, while I didn't finish the course, I was surprised at how much I was able to pick out words in general conversation and get the drift of what was going on. The beginning is really slow but after learning numbers it starts going faster and you feel you are accomplishing more. It is an expensive program though. |

That's great. I tried using Rosetta Stone to for Latin American Spanish once. I wasn't impressed, but then again it could;ve been that I just wasn't really into it. It seemed to just jump into learning words, but giving no background as to how to and why to pronounce them. I might just give this a shot though, because I've heard nothing but good things from others. |

There are several modules for each lesson. There is one where 4 picutres come up and a phrase is written and spoken and you have to match the correct picture to the phrase. The is the opposite where the show a picture and 4 phrases/words. There is one where there is nothing written, just audio and the pictures; one with just words and no audio; one where you type in the phrase after the audio; and one where you speak the phrase after the speaker. So you get a lot of repetition in different modes, which is good. Just be aware of local dialects. Rosetta stone only teaches the high/standard method and you can hit some snags when you go into local areas. |
