Celtic Radio Community > General Discussion > Enhanced Member Accounts

One of the ideas we have to pay for the cost of streaming and providing a website is to come up with an enhanced member account. As part of the enhanced member account we would offer pop3/web based email addresses and storage for a small website.

The question is simple, which address would you prefer as an email/web site address.

Here are a few details on the enhanced account as it stands now. The enhanced account will only cost a few dollars a month and it will have everything from increased storage space for messages, up to 15 requests per day, 25 presets, up to 50 mass PM, enhanced journal, email, webspace and a custom group icon to acknowledge your member status. Enhanced accounts will also automatically be enrolled in any CD giveaways, contests and will receive priority support. All of these services will be accessible from your control panel.

Will this be optional or will this be manditory??

Some people I know that are members are having extreme financial difficulty and could not afford to pay even a few dollars a month.

Posted by: Macfive 03-Feb-2004, 11:25 PM
There will always be the free standard account. The enhanced account will have additional features currently not offered.

Hey MacFive, I'll probably do the enhanced account to help support the station, but I really don't need the Email/webspace (I manage several websites and own a small webhosting service). Can I donate those resources to a member with a regular standard account who can use them, but doesn't have the bucks for the enhanced service?

Will the enhanced service include back-rubs? I have a sore back. tongue.gif

Sounds great Macfive.

Mac this web site is the place I come to listen to music, sit back, share stories, complain, and fall off my chair sometimes laughing. I cant see any reason not to join in the enhanced member accounts. Keep up the good work.

Maisky I can rub your back. Im not a therapist but I used to play one on TV king.gif

Posted by: Macfive 04-Feb-2004, 05:47 PM
It might be kinda difficult to track peoples accounts if you decide to donate your webspace to someone else. You probably dont want them in your account. I'll think about it and see what we come up with.

Hmm, back rubs.....I'll think about that one too! biggrin.gif

Sounds fair, it depends on what "a few dollars a month" is. Remember that you are talking to a lot of Scotts! My pennies cry from being pinched so hard. smilie_tux.gif

Posted by: Macfive 04-Feb-2004, 06:34 PM
The price will be very inexpensive. I can't imagine it being more than $2.99 a month. It could be less if we get more members to sign up. Maybe as low as $1.50 a month. I'll be honest with you. My intention is not to profit from the enhanced member accounts. My goal would be to generate between $300-$500 a month to pay for a dedicated server and to pay for the bandwidth needed to stream.

Maybe someday I will open up a CD store or sell T-shirts, but my short term goals are to find a way to make this site pay for itself. Plus if we were on a dedicated server the pages and graphics would load super fast!!

It will take months to get everything together, but knowing which domain people want will help me decide how to configure it all.

Posted by: Gwydo 05-Feb-2004, 02:51 PM
In addition to paying monthly, could you also enable a quarterly or yearly payment? Speaking for myself it would be easier to budget a year at a time, rather then month to month.

Paul:

Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback.

Paying for this service is really not an issue IF many of your technical troubles could be overcome. These include the drop-offs of connections and the overloading of your server. As far as web-hosting is concerned, most folks already have more e-mail and related services than thy will ever need.

If you seek to attain additional revenue other than your sponsors, can I suggest connections with XM radio or other cable music services as part of their package.

A more technically-reliable music service interests me more than additional e-mail or the like. I can hardly keep up with the work e-mail now.

Something to consider.

Kind Regards!

Tom

I shall be happy to pay you tuesday for a hamburger today...... biggrin.gif

I would be happy to pay a nominal charge. Annual would be a good option.

Posted by: Aaediwen 05-Feb-2004, 07:28 PM
I agree with several here, more E-mail and web space is really the last thing I need. Howver, something like this sounds like a good way to support CRN. It would be nice if there were some nice, worthwhile perks to go along with it. Not sure right off the top of my head on ideas though.

Posted by: ronboze 05-Feb-2004, 08:55 PM
Being only slightly more relational than a lurker, I'd have to say that the e-mail, extra PM's, etc. would be of no real value to me. To be honest, I'd rather pay an exorbitant price for a really cool t-shirt to support the site.

Thanks for working to take it to another level.

How would we pay? Paypal? Sign me up btw:)

Maybe they'll be that too =)

Posted by: Macfive 06-Feb-2004, 11:02 PM
Again, thanks for all the feedback. It really gives me a good idea of what people are looking for. And that is a good point made by many that they already have webspace and emails - so perhaps we will hold off on that until we get some better hosting.

We'll see what we can package together for an enhanced account. Again, it is going to be very inexpensive, will provide good value and will help us stay online!

Thanks for all the honest feedback!

Posted by: mystic_midnightblue 07-Feb-2004, 11:56 AM

Being quite shy,I have not participated in the discussions before and would probably not use the new email services. However t-shirts are cool and where's the end of the line on the backrubs. tongue.gif

I think the enhanced account is not a bad idea. depending on the cost I would concider this. one suggestion though.. for folks like me who are funcitionsl only have really good instructions one what to do when to do it a how to do it.Thanks and keep up the good work

Posted by: Mayte2 07-Feb-2004, 05:05 PM
Do you do feet rubs as well? biggrin.gif I`m more of a liker of back tickles than back rubs biggrin.gif

Kinda sorta depends on if you take my Panamanian visa card too.

Oh yeah, the back rub deal sounds pretty good, but Paul, will ya wear a dress please?

(still think the 'Enchanted Member Account' sounds better)

Maybe he could at least call it that smile.gif

You can get a regular member account for free
Or you can get the enchanted one, if you pay the small fee
Surely it won't mean you can't go on a spree for three

ok, bad rhyme modes off

MacFive! I,too, would prefer an annual fee to help out in any way I can.

Posted by: kidclaymore 08-Feb-2004, 08:26 PM
I too would be perfer an annual fee. biggrin.gif

Posted by: ChuckDenton 08-Feb-2004, 10:41 PM
I agree with another of the readers, I would not use the premium service since I have e-mail accounts coming out my Kazoo, but it would be best to have the option available to those needing it.

Thanks for the upgrade and the possibility of input.

Posted by: shamalama 11-Feb-2004, 07:35 AM
I wouldn't mind financially supporting the radio. I have no need of email or space.

Although the back rubs do sound nice!

I didn't vote cause it really doesn't make any difference to me. Whatever you prefer.

Just an update on these enhanced member accounts.

With the recent change in our broadcast and all of the issues with being a legal internet broadcast I have decided to rethink these enhanced member accounts.

Live365 has something called a preferred membership and it does provide us with a small kicked back if you sign up for a preferred membership through the links on our mainpage. If you listen to Highlander Radio we even get a share of the monthly revenue from preferred membership (although it is like no more that a few cents a month per account). These can be saved and applied to our 2005 bill for next year.

It would not make sense and be very unfair to have to pay for an enhanced account, plus we were not going to charge that much for enhanced celticradio.net accounts, so the decision has been made that once we come out with enhanced accounts, anyone that has purchased a preferred membership account through live365 will be eligible for an enhanced member account.

Sound ok?

Posted by: CelticRose 16-Feb-2004, 07:26 AM
I didn't sign up for preferred membership. Is that okay, or should I have signed up for that? Whatever would help you.

Posted by: Macfive 16-Feb-2004, 08:13 AM
You don't have to sign up for a preferred account! Live365 has free accounts that you can listen to Highlander Radio.

I just think if someone signs up for a live365 preferred account for $3.95 it will be kinda silly to have to pay for another account on CelticRadio.net. So we will just include it for anyone that signs up for a preferrred account.

Hello. I´m from Czech rep. and study. I really couldn´t pay even the small sum of money. I´m sorry of my english.

Posted by: Gordon 14-Jun-2004, 11:54 AM
I'd definately go for an enhanced account. Currently, I'm in a bit of a financial meat grinder but I'd find a way to scrape the money I'd need to jump in and if it goes to support the hands-down, all-time, best site on the net then it'd be well worth it!

The price sounds quite resonable for the fun we can have here.........a back rub would help, tho. unsure.gif

Annual fee would probably be the most convenient.

However, I agree with Lighthouse regarding the detailed instructions. With pictures, if possible!! rolleyes.gif

I wholeheartedly support any enhancements to the site walkman.gif inclusive of an additional charges.....

We all come here for awesome conversation, great music, and fellowship....It distresses me cry.gif when I hear folks "kvetching" about an extra few bucks to use a valuable and wonderful service that many people work extremely hard on each and every day.....We are talking about giving up a pack of smokes, a few slices of pizza, a beer, or maybe a caffe latté from "Starschmucks"....... tongue.gif

Support your community.... king.gif

What ever direction you deside to take this site, I believe that majority of the poeple that come here will follow, myself included.

I would be more than happy to scrape the money to help support this site.
And as far as e-mail goes, true, e-mails are pennies a dozen, but I would prefer to support a place I fell passionate about. Changing person e-mail is easy enough to do (plus, you clean out junk and spam for a while laugh.gif ). I mean who am I to the likes of Hotmail, AOL, Lyco, or Yahoo. Yeah, thier free, but here we're family. Plus the bonus of sending e-mails to freinds and family, you show your support for this site.

Set up the e-mail, I will bring my piggy bank!

And I don't care if you charge mouthly or not. For thoses concerned about when they pay, just pay for all 12 months at one time, or 4, or 6, or 1.

Backrubs?? I'm next! I think that if it is that inexpensive then the majority of people would do it.

Posted by: greenldydragon 06-Jul-2004, 09:12 AM
What if part of the enhanced accounts you get more requests? I know, I request too much and too often, but I have no self control when it comes to listening to music. I would definitly sign up for an enhanced account for more requests!

Posted by: Macfive 06-Jul-2004, 07:43 PM
I happen to be an expert at backrubs! wink.gif

You know, the suggestion for requests is a great idea. The one problem and the reason why I have not included it in the enhanced accounts is there are some regulations regarding requests that we must follow. If I started breaking the request rules and charging $ for that, it may not look to good and could land us in trouble, so we will stick with basic website services for now.

CamCak, back rubs? where do we all sign up?

Mac you too?
What's this world coming to?

Posted by: Aaediwen 07-Jul-2004, 06:33 AM
I've been told I'm good with back and neckrubs too, but sorry ladies, impomptu only. I get myself in enough trouble as it is. I don't need to be tied up for hours on end doing backrubs for every good looking lady I see smile.gif

Posted by: Danann 07-Jul-2004, 08:14 AM
I trained as a masuse for a year, but the guy I was dating at the time made me quit, he was jealous of all the guys that would seek me out to give them back rubs... magic hands was a name he grew to hate.

That was sort of a side job for me at college. I had several professors that would schedule appointments with me, and usually right before test day. My roommate would sit there and ask about test questions, and the Biology teacher would straight up tell her what was or wasn't on the test. She was relaxed enough one time that she just gave her the order of the questions as well as the answers. Pretty funny when she realized it.

Posted by: Madadh 07-Jul-2004, 09:05 AM
Danann,

My back is always available for your magic hands wink.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 07-Jul-2004, 03:11 PM
Because of my back, I have had many back massages and have learned from my Massage therapist...............so what I am saying is that I am pretty good at it too! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Mayte2 09-Jul-2004, 04:06 PM
*sigh* .. I wish for the time when I have enough money to be able to afford a massage whenver I want one. That would be my first employee .. a private masseur (and back tickler and foot rubber too) .. oh and hair brusher hahaha

I'm a dunce, and totally confused...were you referring to the CelticRadio Founders Accounts? Or is this something on top of that?
