A friend sent this to me, thought I'd pass it along.

Thank God for Children Saying Grace...

Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if
he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good, God is
great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets
us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby I heard a woman
remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know
how to pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never!" Hearing this, my son
burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?" As I
held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God
was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He
winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a
great prayer. "Really?" my son asked. "Cross my heart," the man replied.
Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had
started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice
cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared
at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my
life. He picked up his sundae and without a word, walked over and placed it
in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you.
Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already."

The End.

(Sometimes we forget what "He" said: Matthew 19:13-14 KJV
13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his
hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.14 But Jesus said,
Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is
the kingdom of heaven. MacE)

What a cute story! Thank you for sharing it with us!

I think it would do us all good to have a child-like heart again. When a child asks for something it never enters his mind that he won't get it. I think that's why a lot of adult prayers go unaswered. We ask for God's help with problems and then we go about trying to solve the problems ourselves, without giving God time to do His work. He said "And all things, WHATSOEVER ye shall ask in prayer, BELIEVING, ye shall receive." (Matt 21:22)

That is an awesome story!!!!

And wizardman, you are so right. I ask for things knowing I won't get them. In some ways I wonder if I want to not get them. The safety of the cage. Or I might get them, but not in the way I want to get them. I don't want to allow God the authority to decide what is best for me.

We adults are such a controlling lot, are we not? rolleyes.gif

Compassion is the sometimes fatal capacity for feeling what it is like inside somebody else's skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too.

how can it be called progress?
