Discovered another funky band on http://celticmusicnews.com/ called http://www.black47.com/. I really dig Downtown Bagdad Blues, which is blues with a Celtic rip.

This song is very topical, taken from the current Iraq scene. But the Celtic rip makes sense. They also have samples of Danny Boy, along with Celtic rock.

They've got a clip of the song on their web-site under Digital Music.

For the whole song, it is the third song in http://celticmusicnews.com/downloads/downloads.html #9, which is a special on Black 47. The program is an interview with Larry Kirwan about the band, with four Black 47 songs included.

Black '47 rules!!!! Thanks for the new info. They are a very salty bunch -- I can see them getting down and dirty topical about the war too. I've been a fan since Bridey's Song came out on the mainstream rock stations what, six-seven years ago now? Maybe more. Sure, gotta be. I'm getting old. wheelchair.gif

They're playing Connolly's right here in New York three weekends this month. Don't know if I could even get near it. If I do I'll let you know.

And hey! they have their own Live 365 station! I didn't know that til today. biggrin.gif

So, Larry Kirwan did a children's album years back too, that same wacked out vocal delivery as his Black 47 work, very cute kid stuff. I wish we had it on CR.

Here's the news on the bhoys' tour in Ireland next November -- I sure would like to go! Maybe I will, maybe I really will. biggrin.gif

We've finally worked out the details for the Black 47 Tour/Trip to Ireland. It will be held on Nov. 8 -14. There'll be flights from New York, Boston and, for the first time, Chicago. Word has already gone out to the veterans of the '03 and '04 trips. You can talk to many of them at the Forum at black47.com and get the full scoop on what it's like to hit Ireland with the band. Go to http://www.black47.com/ireland/# or call Hammond Tours directly at 866-486-8772 for the details. In accordance with the views of the veterans we've decided to do a less frantic trip this time, spend more time in specific towns and less on the bus. Apart from the music and partying, we will continue to introduce you to the political, social and literary history of Ireland. There is no age limit, everyone mixes well, and we welcome solo travelers. By the time you get home you will have become part of a family and made new friends for life. It's an ideal way to see Ireland for the first time and a fun way to return.

I am listening to Elvis Murphy's Green Suede Shoes right now. They are a really good group.
I bet they have a great show.
They remind me of some of the 80's "new wave" music with an Irish kick. Fun!

New Cd coming out on March 2nd. From Amazon.com who also have sound samples. "Bankers and Gangsters celebrates their 20th year on the road. The title track is a humorous, if acidic, comment on the current financial crisis in inimitable Black 47 fashion. Opening track "Long Hot Summer Comin' On" comes out blazing in New York memories of CBGB's and Lester Bangs among others. Bankers and Gangsters is vintage Black 47 - uproarious, tuneful, challenging, current and above all, entertaining.
