Oh another thing: When you address someone, you have to do so in the vocative. You do that by putting a in front ot the name and leniting. Masculine nouns are also slenderised. So, that should be Tapadh leat, a Ghun!

I am fine, just busy.

Ros is masculine? Wow! I have been using Ros as the Scots Gaelic version of my name Rose. Hmmm....learn something every day.

Beagan ceartachaidh:

QUOTE (CelticRose @ 20-Jan-2007, 10:46 PM)
Hallo Gun!

Hal a Ghun (Vocative). And it's a bit strange calling me Gun only, because it means "without". It would be more natural to use my whole nick or GC.

It's Ciamar a tha thu (how are you, not how are with you)

I checked my names list, you're right! As a plant, it's masculine, but it's also a feminine name. You see, we all learn from each other smile.gif

QUOTE (CelticRose @ 20-Jan-2007, 10:46 PM)
Rois

I had added the i for the vocative, you'd still sign "Rs" in any case. You use the vocative to address people. So, I could say:

'S e Rs Ceilteach an t-ainm a th'ort. Ciamar a tha thu, a Rs Cheilteach?
Your name is CR. How are you, CR?

Feminine vocative doesn't slenderize, but it lenites, and in both cases you add the vocative particle a.

Bha mi rud beag trang cuideachd. An-raoir, bha mi anns an t-semar cmhraidh Gidhlig r. Bha e math dha-rribh!
I was a bit busy too, last night I was in the new Gaelic Chat Room. It was great!
