In the PI I ate tuyo, (dried fish) and rice. I had read a story about a man who had been unjustly sued for libel, and all they could afford to eat was tuyo and rice, he did not complain because he said "It tastes like truth."

I would like to try hagis, but i am afraid I will have to learn to prepare it myself. I think it must taste like the highlands.

Thank you for your hard work. I wanted new e-mail and since if I have any time to spend on the computer I spend it here, this seemed like a perfect spot for an e-mail address.
I also changed my avatar, just a reminder that Scotland is not entirely full of Scots. rolleyes.gif

Well, I've got bad news for you, and then its really going to go down hill.

The bad news is, as a cop there are only a few options open for us. Do we want to handcuff a five year old? NO! Will we? YES. Once I show up everything is going to be my fault, either by action or inaction. Handcuff a five year old, you brute. The five year old managed to hurt herself? Well why didn't you restrain her?

Now, for those of you wondering where we are going and what are we doing in this handbasket, I will tell you; the mother will get a settlement from whoever underwrites the school. The dirty secret is that it will be cheeper to pay her off than take her to court. The mother knows this, the bottom feeding lawyers know this, and now the five year old will know this. mad1.gif

Wait a minute. Isn't a Habu a poisonous Okinawan snake?
I think I am getting sick... yucky.gif

Yes the habu is a poisonous snake in Okinawa. The good habu saki will have a rather large habu sitting in the bottom of the bottle. You can get "Snake Bit" at the Staff Club on MCAS Yuma; a rattle snake in the bottom in a jar of spirits.
I guess you wouldn't want to nosh on some balut either. I used to sit in the Brown Fox drinking San Magoo just waiting for that guy to come by with his basket honking his horn. Oh yeah, balut, massarap! dribble.gif

Does this mean that nobody wants to have a shot of Habu Saki with me? Watch out for the brews with formaldehyde! I had drank Red Horse in the philippines and enjoyed it, however, when exported it is mixed with formaldehyde as a preservative. I almost embalmed myself with an old friend on BC street one night. rolleyes.gif beer_mug.gif

I have enjoyed it here in Yuma. If I can get it in Yuma anyone should be able to. However it does push the $4.00 a bottle price range here, making it a rare treat. beer_mug.gif

QUOTE (Swanny @ 21-Mar-2005, 09:40 AM)

Perhaps he made his wife a promise, and now feels duty bound to fulfil it.

Swanny

What about that promise made before God to love honor and cherish til death do us part? Do you get to choose which promises you keep and which you do not?

Granted, I don't think I would like to live like Terii, but if I am brain dead, what would it matter? If I am only aware that someone I love is in the room, but that makes me happy, who can say if that is not a good quality of life?

Terii is a test. How do we treat the most defenseless among us? We are failing that test.

I have been shooting most of my life. My Grandfather rode with a posse in Wyoming, and told the story of the outlaw getting shot out of the saddle. My Grandfather did not like toy guns, guns are tools, not toys!
I have (issued) A SIG 226 .40, M16.A.1, Remington 870, and for dress up I own a Sig 232 .380 stainless.
If I had my choice I would have cowboy guns and historical firearms. I love black powder, and I love history. Nothing brings history to life for me as much as handling an infantry rifle from the 1800's. Having been on a few humps myself I am impressed when I think that some poor foot soldier had to pack this 20 Lb beast plus ammo.

I am sorry to hear about the problems your mother is having. A good lawyer should be able to help. I suspect some responsibility on the part of the bank. Some people have problems with money, my wife thinks of credit cards a a loan between friends, and of course my friend would understand if I can't pay you back right now. The bank just keeps sending out the credit cards though, and adding every late fee known to man.

As I have grown older I try to base my opinions on facts. Facts based on my experience and arguments based in logic. When I was younger, I based more of my opinions on emotion, "Its just not fair that some people should have to live on the street."
Now we have a person who lives on a freeway on ramp. He has been here about two years, just sitting in a folding chair day and night, rain or shine. He has been arrested twice, when the garbage gets too high and he refuses to pick it up. The protester come out of the wood work then! Last time one even posted his bail! He didn't offer him a job as a night watchman, or even a spare room in the garage, just set him back out on his corner.
I know this problem needs more than just "feel good" solutions. It does not help this guy to give him a happy meal, he needs treatment. In a proper environment we may be able to banish the demons that torment him and then discover he is a great artist.
Now we have a debate, at what point do we commit an individual? How much are we willing to pay in taxes to support a mental health system for the destitute?
The protesters like to keep the argument to 30 second sound bites that play well on the news. A few comments about "jackbooted thugs" in law enforcement and "A man has the right to live free as he sees fit." I don't think this is fair, it does not address the issue, I guess I can respond in kind, "Teach a man to fish, and you have a job for the day. Give a man a fish and you have a job for life."

i just finished The Catcher In the Rye by JD Salinger. i wouldnt recommend it though.

I have done that, I have read a few of the "must read" books and been disappointed.
Now I am reading "Hunter of the Light" by Risa Aratyr. A Celtic fantasy that is quite good, but you need to know your Celtic lore to keep up.

A lot of my family stories are just that, stories handed down. My mother was able to document them, so that is a plus. These stories tell us who we are and who we wish to be; my Grandfather jumped ship in New York, then joined the Army to get U.S. citizenship. He was promptly shipped off to France where he survived some of the bloodiest fighting in WWI. Ah, to be brave like Grandfather.
My other Grandfather also fought in WWI and when he returned, he found that the family had sold all his belongings. No one expected him to live and they needed the money. Ah, to handle adversity like Grandfather.
Then there is the story of the cousin who while camping on the Oregon Trail, used a discarded musket barrel for a spit over his fire. When the barrel got hot enough, the powder charge cooked off and the musket ball broke his leg. Ah, let's not do anything stupid.

My name is Erik, and I am a Dane. Erick Blood Axe was the son of Harald Blue Tooth, King of the Danes. Erick was made famous in Egil's Saga with the Blood Ransom Poem. Egil composes the poem overnight and recites it the next day. Erick recognizes the pome has made him famous and spares Egils life.
So Erik is the first traffic cop, who as you all know, will let you go if you can come up with a good story that we haven't heard before. rolleyes.gif

O.K. My wild guess for the Half Blood Prince.
Victor Krum is the HBP. With the headmaster of Drumstrang on the lam for being a deatheater, Victor transfers to Hogwarts. The sorting hat puts Victor either in Slythren, where he becomes the Slythern seeker, giving Harry real competition, or he gets put into Gryfindor, where he may knock Harry out of his spot as seeker. Don't forget the Ron, Hermione, Victor angle. Last, remember Lady MacBeth, when you get too strong a person in the story, you might have to kill them off.

I have read LOTR many times. I have even read the Unfinished Tales, Leaf by Nigel, Farmer Giles of Ham and the Silmarrillion. I really wonder if the Silmarrillion was meant for publication sometimes; it is so hard to get through, but still some great stories there. The LOTR is such a wonderful book because of the detail that was put into the Silmarrillion and unfinished Tales. Sad to say there are a few things that you might skip over without understanding how important the action, or the person, if you have not read those two.

I like historical fiction. I enjoy the detail that is involved in the stories; the day to day business. These things are skipped in straight history.
I like to read a history, then a historical fiction; for example if you have read "For whom the bell tolls" try reading "Between the bullet and the lie".
